The spring festival dedicated to ficattole in San Vincenzo a Torri
In the heart of spring, the small village of San Vincenzo a Torri, in the municipality of Scandicci (Florence province, Tuscany), comes alive for one of its most beloved events: the Ficattola Festival. Organized by the local MCL Club, this long-standing tradition has been running for over forty years, drawing residents and visitors from across the Florentine area.
The ficattola is a humble, genuine specialty of Tuscan peasant cuisine: a piece of leavened dough deep-fried in hot oil, resulting in a golden, crispy crust and a soft, airy interior. A close relative of the fried schiacciata, the ficattola is incredibly versatile, which is exactly what makes it the star of the festival.
During the festival, the club's volunteers prepare ficattole in several variations:
More than just a food event, the Ficattola Festival is a gathering place for the entire community of San Vincenzo a Torri. The MCL Club premises on Via San Niccolò fill with families, friends, and curious foodies sharing tables in the true spirit of Tuscan village festivals. The event is held under the patronage of the Municipality of Scandicci.
Scandicci, located in the Florence metropolitan area, is easily accessible from Florence, including via the tramway. The village of San Vincenzo a Torri is situated in the hilly part of the municipality, nestled in the countryside that frames this authentic spring celebration. Attending the Ficattola Festival is a chance to discover a genuine corner of Tuscany, far from the crowded tourist circuits and close to the true flavors of the past.
The Ficattola Festival returned in 2026 to the premises of the MCL Club of San Vincenzo a Torri, in Scandicci. From the early afternoon, volunteers fired up the fryers to serve hot, fragrant ficattole: plain, stuffed with ham, fontina, and oregano, or in the delicious sweet version with Nutella. A day of celebration and conviviality in the spirit of Tuscan gastronomic tradition.
Opening in the early afternoon (from approximately 3:30 PM). Tasting of ficattole in plain version, stuffed with ham, fontina, and oregano, filled with traditional cured meats (prosciutto crudo, mortadella, arugula), and the sweet "nutellina" variant with Nutella.
