The St. Michael Feuerwehrfest

The Feuerwehrfest, or the summer festival of the St. Michael Volunteer Firefighters (in German Freiwillige Feuerwehr St. Michael Eppan), is one of the most cherished summer events in Appiano sulla strada del vino (Eppan an der Weinstraße), in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, Trentino-Alto Adige. For three days, the festival square (Festplatz) in the main town of San Michele transforms into a vibrant meeting point for locals and visitors alike, celebrating South Tyrolean hospitality.

A South Tyrolean Volunteering Tradition

As in many South Tyrolean villages, the volunteer fire department is the heart of community life. The annual festival serves both as a social gathering and a way to support the Corps' vital work. The program follows the classic South Tyrolean village festival format: live music evenings with local bands, the traditional Sunday morning Frühschoppen, children's games, and a strong focus on high-quality local food.

Gastronomy and Atmosphere

Under the marquees, you will always find typical South Tyrolean culinary specialties: sausages and grilled meats, dumplings, homemade desserts, and, of course, local wines, as Appiano is a hub of viticulture in the Oltradige area. The beer flows freely, and the atmosphere is that of a genuine, family-friendly mountain festival.

Appiano and the Wine Road

The municipality of Appiano sulla strada del vino is known as the "land of castles, lakes, and wines" and is part of the Oltradige-Bassa Atesina community. San Michele is its main hub and municipal seat. Attending the Feuerwehrfest means experiencing an authentic day in this wine-growing region, just a few kilometers from Bolzano.
