The traditional festival of the Volunteer Firefighters of Tisens, in the heart of South Tyrol
The Feuerwehrfest der FF Tisens is the annual event organized by the Volunteer Firefighters of Tisens (Freiwillige Feuerwehr Tisens), one of the most cherished gatherings for the community of this town nestled on the plateau between Merano and the Adige Valley, in the province of Bolzano. The festival takes place on the Rathausplatz, the town hall square in the village center, transforming Tisens for an entire weekend into a meeting point for locals, neighboring towns, and visitors from across the Burgraviato (Burggrafenamt) region.
The event is tied to the Corpus Christi holiday (known in German as Fronleichnam), one of the most significant religious and folk celebrations in the South Tyrolean calendar. As is common in many German-speaking communities in South Tyrol, the fire brigade festival combines religious observance with conviviality: the volunteer firefighters, the backbone of social life in these mountain villages, open their doors to the public with a large festival tent, food stalls, and music.
The program focuses heavily on live music, featuring popular and dance bands from the Alpine region. Recent editions have featured groups such as the Almprinzen, the party band Ursprung Buam, and the KBLG Tanzlmusig, all capable of keeping the tent dancing from afternoon until night with Schlager, Volksmusik, and festive hits. The atmosphere is typical of South Tyrolean Zeltfeste (tent festivals), where music accompanies long communal tables.
Alongside the music, the star of the show is the traditional gastronomy: classic South Tyrolean dishes, grilled specialties, homemade desserts, as well as coffee and cakes served on Sunday morning. Naturally, there is plenty of beer, a staple at every village festival in South Tyrol. Proceeds from the event support the activities of the volunteer fire brigade, who, in Tisens as throughout South Tyrol, play a fundamental role in local safety and territory protection.
The Municipality of Tisens, along with the hamlet of Prissian, sits on a sunny plateau rich in castles, vineyards, and apple orchards, just a short distance from Merano. Attending the Feuerwehrfest means experiencing an authentic celebration, far from mass tourism, where you can breathe in the identity of the Trentino-South Tyrol region and the strong associative traditions of the German-speaking communities.
The 2026 Feuerwehrfest of the Volunteer Firefighters of Tisens opened on Saturday, June 6, starting at 5:30 PM with a performance by the Almprinzen; from 9:00 PM, the festival tent hosted the party band Ursprung Buam, one of the most beloved acts on the Alpine dance scene. On Sunday, June 7, from 10:00 AM, the festivities resumed with the KBLG Tanzlmusig, accompanied by the traditional coffee and homemade cake service. There was no shortage of food stalls with South Tyrolean specialties and beer, in a festive atmosphere that brought together the entire Tisens community.
