About Festival of Light

Every spring, the Festival of Light brings the historic village of Piossasco, in the Metropolitan City of Turin, to life with a weekend dedicated to memory, art, and local discovery. Organized by the Borgo Storico Merchants Association, it celebrates two internationally renowned figures from Piossasco: Alessandro Cruto, inventor of the carbon filament for the lightbulb, and artist Giuseppe Riccardo Lanza. Exhibitions, workshops, street food, craft markets, and live music fill the squares, blending culture, gastronomy, and community spirit.

The Festival of Light in Piossasco

The Festival of Light is a spring event that illuminates the historic village of Piossasco, a town in the southwestern outskirts of Turin, in the heart of Piedmont. Promoted by the Borgo Storico Merchants Association of Piossasco, with the patronage of the Municipality, the Metropolitan City of Turin, and the Piedmont Regional Council, the festival offers a weekend that combines historical memory, art, gastronomy, and the revitalization of the town center's commercial and tourist fabric.

A tribute to Cruto and Lanza

The common thread of the event is the dual tribute to two internationally renowned figures from Piossasco. Alessandro Cruto was the 19th-century inventor who developed a carbon filament for the incandescent lightbulb, a contribution that inextricably links Piossasco to the theme of light. Giuseppe Riccardo Lanza was a multifaceted artist, painter, and sculptor active throughout Europe, remembered forty years after his passing. Open-air routes, exhibitions, and guided tours are dedicated to their stories, transforming the village into a true open-air museum.

The program

A rich calendar of initiatives unfolds along the streets and squares of the center:

  • Exhibitions and an open-air museum dedicated to Cruto and Lanza, with guided tours;
  • Workshops, studios, and art-and-nature trails, designed for families as well;
  • Street food and markets featuring local producers and food artisans;
  • Live music and DJ sets in the village squares, with dance evenings dedicated to the greatest Italian dance hits;
  • Theatrical performances, entertainment, and baby dance for the little ones;
  • Art competition, a painting contest inspired by the figure of Lanza.

Casa Lajolo and the ADSI Day

The heart of the edition is the opening of the historic Casa Lajolo, an 18th-century residence with its Italian and English gardens, on the occasion of the National A.D.S.I. Day (Italian Historic Houses Association). An exhibition of Lanza's works is set up in the restored stables, while free guided tours accompany the public through the gardens and interiors. A free shuttle connects the village to Casa Lajolo, facilitating the discovery of the various festival locations.

An event for the territory

The Festival of Light is much more than a cultural appointment: it is an opportunity to rediscover the identity of Piossasco and its village, enhancing local shops, collective memory, and the community's bond with its past. Between art, flavors, and convivial moments, the event confirms the vitality of this corner of the Metropolitan City of Turin.
