Concerts in the squares of Montaione's historic center, every Tuesday evening in August
The Festival della Musica Suonata is one of the most beloved events of the Montaione Summer, the season of festivities that brings the town of Montaione to life. Located in the province of Florence, in the heart of the Tuscan hills between the Valdelsa and Val d'Egola valleys, the festival is now in its seventeenth year. It is conceived, organized, and artistically directed by local musician Stefano Montagnani, in collaboration with the municipal administration.
The heart of the festival is Piazza Branchi, located in the medieval historic center of Montaione, which becomes a natural open-air stage every Tuesday evening in August. The village setting, with its ancient stone walls and the intimate atmosphere of Tuscan summer nights, is an integral part of the experience: few places combine the quality of musical performance with the charm of a Florentine hillside town so perfectly.
The festival's hallmark is variety: over the years, the Montaione stage has hosted jazz, singer-songwriter and popular music, Mediterranean and Northern European musical traditions, Tuscan and Irish folk, Latin American music, and tributes to the fathers of Italian music. It is a festival designed for audiences seeking live music, far removed from the logic of mass entertainment.
The 2026 edition confirms this commitment with four evenings spanning different genres:
Over the years, the festival has hosted groups such as the Last Minute Dirty Band, the Giuditta Scorcelletti Trio, and Willos' (bridging Tuscany and Ireland), as well as tributes to Giorgio Gaber and the Italian Teatro Canzone. This continuity has made the Festival della Musica Suonata a landmark for music lovers throughout the Empolese Valdelsa area and Tuscany.
In line with the philosophy of events promoted by the Montaione municipal administration, all concerts are free and open to the public. It is a perfect opportunity to discover or rediscover one of Tuscany's most evocative villages, combining quality live music, an authentic atmosphere, and a summer evening under the stars.
The 17th edition of the Festival della Musica Suonata takes place every Tuesday evening in August 2026 in Piazza Branchi, Montaione, with concerts starting at 9:30 PM and free admission.
The program announced by the municipal administration offers four diverse evenings: a tribute band dedicated to Enzo Jannacci, an evening of Neapolitan melodies, an acoustic concert by Rick Hutton, and a jazz trio featuring Stefania Scarzini, Nico Gori, and Piero Fossi.
Concerts are held every Tuesday evening in August in Piazza Branchi, starting at 9:30 PM.
By car: Montaione can be reached via the regional road 429 of the Valdelsa, taking the exit toward Castelfiorentino or Gambassi Terme; the village is about an hour from Florence and forty minutes from Empoli. By train: the nearest station is Castelfiorentino on the EmpoliโSiena line, from where you can continue by local bus or car. By plane: Florence-Peretola Airport is the most convenient hub.
Concerts are held in Piazza Branchi, usually starting at 9:30 PM. Admission is free for all events.
We recommend arriving a little early to find a seat in the square and to park in the town center areas. For accommodation, Montaione and its surrounding hamlets offer farmhouses and facilities nestled in the Tuscan hills.
