The travelling theatre that redefines the borders of Insubria
The Festival Terra e Laghi is one of the most important travelling theatre reviews in Northern Italy, curated by the company Teatro Blu. Its mission is to bring theatre outside conventional venues, into the squares and villages of Insubria, the historical and cultural region straddling Lombardy and the Canton of Ticino, where borders become places of meeting rather than barriers.
Among the 44 locations touched by the festival is Lavena Ponte Tresa, in the Province of Varese, a village overlooking Lake Lugano right on the Swiss border. Here the festival stops with an open-air performance at the Area Feste Tretto, offering the community an evening of quality theatre in a suggestive natural setting.
The Terra e Laghi programme ranges from prose, street theatre and contemporary circus, with performances designed for a wide, intergenerational audience. The artistic direction of Silvia Priori carries forward the idea of popular and accessible theatre, capable of enhancing the territories and their identities.
The festival, supported by the Lombardy Region and the Ministry of Culture, represents a model of distributed theatre that intertwines culture, territory and cross-border relations. The stop in Lavena Ponte Tresa is a precious opportunity to experience open-air theatre in one of the most charming villages on Lake Lugano.
The 2026 edition of the Festival Terra e Laghi celebrates the twentieth anniversary of the travelling review by Teatro Blu, with 85 shows in 44 municipalities between Italy and Switzerland, from May to November, on the theme "Geographies of the possible". The official opening is on June 5th, 2026 at the Giardini Estensi in Varese.
The Lavena Ponte Tresa stop is scheduled for August 1st, 2026 at 6:30 PM at Area Feste Tretto, with the show "Vengo Anch'io" by Teatro Invito.
