Dumeltica – Celtic Music Festival

Dumeltica, the Celtic call of Dumenza

Dumeltica is the Celtic Music Festival of Dumenza, a municipality in the hinterland of Luino in the province of Varese, above Luino. The festival stems from the area's strong connection to the Celtic world: in the Val Dumentina, traces of the Celts are present and numerous, evidenced by many erratic boulders with still undeciphered engravings. Dumeltica celebrates this heritage in conjunction with the summer solstice.

Music, re-enactment, and market

The festival takes place at the Carà Sports Centre and offers two rich days. On stage, Celtic and folk groups and traditional instruments like handpan, harp, and flute alternate, alongside theatrical moments. All around, the Celtic-Viking craft market with themed stalls, and the food stands open for lunch and dinner. There is also a historical re-enactment, bringing back atmospheres and gestures of the past.

The great solstice bonfire

The most exciting moment is the grand bonfire: around the fire, participants hold hands and dance to the rhythm of ancestral percussion, celebrating the change of season exactly as the ancient Celts did. It is the ritual that gives meaning to the entire festival, merging music, community, and nature.

A festival brought back to life

After several years of hiatus due to the pandemic and organizational difficulties – the last historic edition was in 2019 – Dumeltica has returned thanks to the Pro Loco Dumenza 2.0, bringing back to the town an event capable of attracting visitors from all over the Lake Maggiore area.
