In the heart of summer, the village of Varmo, in the Bassa friulana region of the province of Udine, celebrates its patron saint with the Sagra di San Lorenzo – in Friulian, San Laurinç – also known as Vil di Vâr in fieste (Varmo in celebration). It is an authentically village festival, organized by the parish nursery school together with the municipal administration and local associations, which combines religious tradition, Friulian cuisine, and lots of music.

Three days of flavors and music

The heart of the festival are the food stalls, where you can taste traditional Friulian dishes in a convivial atmosphere, and the live music that accompanies the evenings. The three days alternate moments of celebration for all ages: open kitchens, dancing, DJ sets, and offerings designed for both families and younger people. Sunday is dedicated to the Mass in honor of the patron saint, followed by the continuation of the festivities.

The flavor of Bassa friulana

Varmo is located in an area of fields and waterways, along the routes that follow the Tagliamento river and the villages along the waterways. The festival is the ideal opportunity to discover this quiet and genuine corner of Friuli, far from the most touristy routes, and to savor the hospitality of a community that has gathered for generations around the celebration of its patron saint.

Scheduled around August 10th, the day of San Lorenzo, the festival is a classic of the Varmo summer.
