The patron saint's festival of the city of shoes

The Festa di San Crispino is the main patron saint's festival of Porto Sant'Elpidio, a coastal town in the province of Fermo, in the Marche region. Saint Crispin, along with his brother Crispinian, is venerated as the patron saint of shoemakers: a devotion that takes on a very special meaning in Porto Sant'Elpidio, as the footwear district and the production of women's shoes have been the engine of the local economy and identity for generations. The competition, now in its many editions, is accompanied by musical performances and the election of Miss San Crispino.

San Crispino Day, procession, and fireworks

The religious heart of the festival is San Crispino Day, on October 25th, the patron saint's day: workshops and games for children, a solemn Eucharistic celebration in the Church of the Santissima Annunziata, and the procession through the town's streets. The evenings come alive with concerts in Piazza Garibaldi — over the years, nationally renowned artists have performed on stage — and culminate with the fireworks display that lights up the sky over the sea.

The historic market fair

Closing the festivities is the great San Crispino market fair, one of the oldest and most popular in the area: hundreds of stalls invade the city streets from the early morning hours, offering local products, crafts, clothing, and, of course, footwear. The fair day is often enhanced by performances by drummers and flag-wavers, emphasizing the festival's connection to the historical traditions of the Fermo territory.
