The Fasano festival dedicated to Apulian extra virgin olive oil
In the territory with the highest density of ancient olive trees in the world, Fasano dedicates an entire weekend to extra virgin olive oil with the Festa dell'Olio Buono. The festival, organized by the Itriae Culturae APS association, was created to tell the story of oil not just as an agricultural product, but as a true cultural and identity heritage of Puglia and the Fasano municipality, in the province of Brindisi.
The heart of the event is the meeting between producers, processors, and consumers: for the first time, producers, consumers, and industry experts come together to cultivate an oil culture and promote the territory. The program alternates between guided tastings, sensory analysis courses, show cooking, thematic meetings, and food stalls, enlivening the squares and symbolic landmarks of the historic center.
The Festa dell'Olio Buono is designed as a public laboratory for taste education and community building. Alongside educational moments, there is space for family and children's activities, exhibitions, and anthropological narratives linked to the olive civilization. The festival is sponsored by the National Association of Oil Cities and supported by the Municipality of Fasano and local entities such as the BCC of Locorotondo.
The events take place in characteristic locations in Fasano: the Chiostro dei Minori Osservanti, the Museo della Casa alla Fasanese, the "Ignazio Ciaia" Community Library, Piazza Mercato Vecchio with its temporary oil shop, as well as the masserie (farmhouses) of the Fasano countryside such as Masseria Pezze Galere. An itinerary that connects the urban center with the olive-growing landscape, the productive heart of Apulian extra virgin olive oil.
The second edition of the Festa dell'Olio Buono brought the theme "Harvests and Tales" to Fasano, an invitation to go beyond the production dimension to open a broader dialogue between those who produce, process, and consume extra virgin olive oil. The event, organized by Itriae Culturae APS, enlivened the squares and symbolic places of the Fasano center for four days, closing with a positive outcome in terms of public participation.
Among the new features of the edition were the art exhibition set up at the Museo della Casa alla Fasanese and the temporary oil shop in Piazza Mercato Vecchio with tastings from thirteen local producers.
