The sagra (festival) of the king of mountain cured hams
The Festa del Jambon de Bosses DOP, also known as Jambon Day, is the sagra (festival) dedicated to one of the most renowned cured meats of the Alps: Vallée d'Aoste Jambon de Bosses DOP. Produced in Saint-Rhémy-en-Bosses, in the province of Aosta, it is the only Italian raw ham seasoned with aromatic mountain herbs and aged at about 1,600 metres altitude, a height that makes it a unique cured ham. The tradition of this ham has been documented since the 17th century, when it was already transported along the historic Great St Bernard road.
The festival takes place in the hamlet of Saint-Léonard and offers a complete immersion into the world of Jambon de Bosses: guided tastings, the opportunity to buy the ham directly from producers, a visit to the ham producer to discover the secrets of its processing and high-altitude aging. The ham is served according to Aosta Valley tradition, accompanied by black bread, mountain butter, honey, and walnuts, paired with wines from Valle d'Aosta. There are also food stalls with other typical local products.
The day is enlivened by live music, activities for children, educational workshops on mountain herbs and ham processing, and afternoon dance events. The Festa del Jambon de Bosses is organised by the Municipality of Saint-Rhémy-en-Bosses and the local Pro Loco (tourism association) and represents one of the most beloved food and wine events of the Aosta Valley summer, successfully combining the promotion of an excellent DOP product with the warmth of a village festival.
On July 12, 2026, the second Sunday of the month, Saint-Rhémy-en-Bosses celebrates its DOP ham with Jambon Day in the hamlet of Saint-Léonard. From the morning, the festival offers tastings of Jambon de Bosses DOP served traditionally with black bread, mountain butter, honey, and walnuts, paired with wines from Valle d'Aosta. It is possible to visit the ham producer to discover the secrets of processing and aging at 1,600 metres altitude, participate in guided tastings, and buy the product directly from producers. The afternoon is enlivened by workshops for children, music, and dancing.
The detailed timetable will be published in the weeks preceding the event by the Municipality and the Pro Loco of Saint-Rhémy-en-Bosses. Updates on lovevda.it and the Pro Loco's Facebook page.
