A festival dedicated to the farmers and wines of Pantelleria

The Farmer's Wine Festival is one of the most beloved summer events in Scauri, a vibrant district of the Municipality of Pantelleria, located on the island of the same name in the province of Trapani, Sicily. The festival was born with a clear purpose: to highlight the figure of the Pantelleria farmer, their daily labor, and the most precious fruit of that toil—the wine. It is a sincere tribute to those who, generation after generation, have shaped the island's terraced landscape and passed down ancient wisdom.

Bush-trained vines, a World Heritage treasure

Pantelleria is the home of the Pantelleria bush-trained vine (vite ad alberello), an agricultural practice so unique that it was recognized in 2014 as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, the first agricultural practice in the world to receive such recognition. This cultivation method, which requires up to three times more labor than vineyards on the Sicilian mainland, produces the Zibibbo grape, from which the famous Passito di Pantelleria and Moscato are made. The festival tells the story of this deep bond between the land, the wind, the sun, and the people who know how to harvest its gifts.

Tastings, costumes, and tradition

In the evocative setting of Piazza San Gaetano, the evening comes alive with tastings of local wines paired with regional specialties. Among the culinary highlights is the grilled pork coppa sandwich, designed to pair perfectly with glasses of Zibibbo and Passito. There are also costumed re-enactments that evoke the life of farmers from the past, showcasing traditional tools and the gestures of the harvest in an atmosphere that blends conviviality, memory, and celebration.

The event is organized by the Associazione Crescere Insieme APS, a highly active local group in Scauri that also manages other popular summer gatherings, such as the Sausage Festival and the Feast of Saint Gaetano. The Farmer's Wine Festival is thus a key part of Pantelleria's rich summer calendar, alongside other food, wine, and cultural events that bring the island to life during the warmer months.
