The patronal feast of the small village of Pastina, a hamlet of Santa Luce, in the Pisan Hills
The Events in Honor of Saint Bartholomew are the most anticipated event of the year for Pastina, a small hamlet in the Municipality of Santa Luce, in the Province of Pisa. Nestled at an altitude of about 215 meters along the road connecting Santa Luce to Pomaia, this village of a few hundred inhabitants renews its devotion to its patron saint, the apostle Bartholomew, every year around August 24th.
The bond between Pastina and Saint Bartholomew dates back to the Middle Ages: the Parish of Saint Bartholomew was already documented in 1301. The church that dominates the village today, in Piazza Vittorio Veneto, was rebuilt in 1576 and renovated in neoclassical style in 1839 under the Grand Duchy of Leopold II; severely damaged by the bombings of 1944, it was restored thanks to the efforts of the local population. Inside, it preserves a 17th-century canvas depicting the Madonna with Saints Sebastian, Lucy, and Roch, as well as an organ built by Cesare Tronci in 1870. It is in this place steeped in history that the community celebrates its patron saint.
The festival takes place over three days, from August 22nd to 24th, combining religious observance with village conviviality. Alongside the moments of devotion linked to the figure of Saint Bartholomew, the Amici di Pastina and the parish enliven the village with social evenings, gastronomic events, and entertainment designed for the entire community and visitors from neighboring hamlets.
The Events in Honor of Saint Bartholomew ideally conclude the busy summer calendar of the Santa Luce area, which brings open-air cinema, musical evenings, food fairs, and festivals to its hamlets between June and September. Pastina, with its patronal feast, preserves one of the most authentic events in this corner of Tuscany, where the tradition of village festivals remains a living part of the identity of the Pisan Hills.
The dates for the 2026 edition are confirmed by the official summer calendar of the Municipality of Santa Luce: the Saint Bartholomew festival returns to Pastina from August 22nd to 24th. The detailed program of the days, including the times of religious celebrations and festive moments, is usually released in the weeks preceding the event through the channels of the Parish of Saint Bartholomew in Pastina and the Municipality. It is recommended to consult these channels for updates, as the program may be subject to change.
Pastina is a hamlet of Santa Luce (PI), located along the provincial road connecting Santa Luce to Pomaia, about 45 km from Pisa. By car, it can be reached from the SS1 Aurelia or the FI-PI-LI expressway, taking the Rosignano exit and continuing towards the hinterland of the Pisan Hills.
The festival takes place from August 22nd to 24th, coinciding with the feast day of Saint Bartholomew the Apostle (August 24th).
As this is a village festival, it is advisable to follow the social media channels of the Parish of Saint Bartholomew in Pastina and the Municipality of Santa Luce for updates on the program, which may be subject to change.
