About Energy and Environment Festival

The Energy and Environment Festival returns to Borgo San Lorenzo, in the heart of the Mugello, for two days of round-table discussions featuring experts, scientists, policymakers, and citizens. The event explores major themes regarding energy, climate, and land conservation. Organized by the Associazione Nuova Energheia, this free-admission educational event addresses environmental challenges—from climate change and wildfire risks to energy geopolitics and extreme weather events—with scientific rigor.

A festival to understand energy and the environment

The Energy and Environment Festival is an educational and cultural event held every spring in Borgo San Lorenzo, the main town of the Mugello area in the Province of Florence, Tuscany. Established in 2023 by the Associazione Nuova Energheia, the event aims to tackle the great environmental and energy issues of our time using a data-driven scientific approach, steering clear of slogans and oversimplifications.

Each edition focuses on a key theme, explored through a series of round-table discussions that bring together university professors, technicians, public administrators, entrepreneurs, journalists, and emergency management specialists. The public is invited to participate and engage in an open dialogue, which has become the hallmark of the festival.

The Venue: Centro d'Incontro

Conferences are held at the Centro d'Incontro at Piazza Dante 33, in the historic center of Borgo San Lorenzo. It is easily accessible and located just steps away from the town's main amenities. Admission to all sessions is free, reflecting the festival's commitment to education and inclusivity.

Past and Future Themes

The festival continues to evolve, choosing a different, highly relevant central theme each year:

  • 2023 — First edition, dedicated to energy sources and climate change;
  • 2024 — Second edition, focusing on climate change: causes, consequences, and remedies;
  • 2025 — Third edition, dedicated to sustainable agriculture and the debate on GMOs;
  • 2026 — Fourth edition, on the theme "Energy and local environmental risks".

An event rooted in the Mugello

The Energy and Environment Festival is promoted in collaboration with the Unione Montana dei Comuni del Mugello and the Municipality of Borgo San Lorenzo, highlighting its strong bond with the region. In an area characterized by forests, farmland, and a landscape of great value, issues such as hydrogeological risk prevention, wildfire defense, and the energy transition take on concrete, everyday significance. The festival has thus become a reference point for anyone wishing to better understand the environmental dynamics affecting the Mugello community and all of Tuscany.
