The Potato Cake Festival on the Paganella Plateau
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The End of Summer Festival is the event with which the town of Andalo, in the province of Trento, bids farewell to the summer season and celebrates the identity of the Paganella Plateau. Established in 2017, the event takes place at Parco Andalo Life and brings the entire community together for a single day around a symbol of mountain cuisine: the potato cake.
The highlight of the day is the Potato Cake Challenge, the true star of the event. In the morning, the masi of Andalo compete for the title with their own baked potato cake recipes, judged by the Potato Cake Brotherhood, guardians of authentic flavors and handed-down recipes. In the afternoon, the competition expands to include the municipalities of the plateau — Spormaggiore, Molveno, Cavedago, Fai della Paganella — to award the trophy for the best traditional dish, in a contest that has become a friendly local rivalry over the years.
A rich food and wine offering revolves around the competition. The communal lunch features tortei di patate (potato pancakes) served with sauerkraut, beans, cheese, speck, and cured meats, while in the afternoon, strauben, the typical sweet fritters of Trentino, are served. A beverage corner featuring wines from the Piana Rotaliana wineries, craft beers, and non-alcoholic drinks completes the selection, managed in collaboration with the ASD Altopiano Paganella Calcio.
The End of Summer Festival is designed for all ages. The day is accompanied by live music, children's entertainment, a free tourist train that takes visitors to discover the traditional farmsteads, the Morra tournament — an ancient popular game — and a final raffle with numerous prizes. It is an opportunity to experience Andalo and the Paganella Plateau in an authentic way, amidst mountain flavors and conviviality, in one of the most beloved territories of the Trentino-Alto Adige region.
The Municipality of Andalo and Andalo Vacanze will host the End of Summer Festival again in 2026, featuring the customary potato cake challenge between the farmsteads and the municipalities of the Paganella Plateau. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced; the detailed program will be published by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event. The festival usually takes place on a Sunday in September at Parco Andalo Life.
Andalo is located on the Paganella Plateau, in Trentino. By car: take the A22 Brenner motorway exit at San Michele all'Adige-Mezzocorona, then follow the SS43 and SP64 towards the plateau. By train: arrive at the Trento or Mezzocorona station, then continue by local bus.
The event is held at Parco Andalo Life, in the center of Andalo (Postal Code 38010, province of Trento).
The festival is free to enter; the communal lunch and tastings are available for a small fee. Information: +39 0461 585776 - [email protected].
