About Trambileno between Villages and Nativity Scenes

In Trambileno, in the Vallagarina valley, Christmas lights up from one hamlet to the next: nativity scenes set up by residents along the streets and squares of Porte, Moscheri, Boccaldo, Vanza, and other small mountain villages. Enjoy weekend food stalls and markets, along with popular traditions like the arrival of Saint Nicholas and the Krampus, Saint Lucy, Santa Claus, and the Befana. An authentic community Christmas, part of the Natali della Vallagarina festival.

A widespread Christmas across the hamlets of Trambileno

In the municipality of Trambileno, nestled among the woods of the Vallagarina valley in the province of Trento, at the foot of Mount Pasubio and along the Leno Valleys, Christmas is not confined to a single square but spreads from village to village. Trambileno between Villages and Nativity Scenes is a calendar of events that, from early December until Epiphany, brings life to the small mountain hamlets scattered across the valley slopes: Porte, Cà Bianca, Toldo, Moscheri, Lesi, Boccaldo, Vanza, Pozzacchio, Pian del Levro, and Giazzera. It is a Christmas built on community, volunteer work, and ancient traditions, far from mass tourism and all the more authentic for it.

Nativity scenes in the streets and squares

The heart of the event lies in the numerous nativity scenes, crafted by residents and local associations and placed along the streets, in the squares, and in the most picturesque corners of the hamlets. On weekends, the villages come alive with food stalls and small markets featuring typical products and local crafts, particularly in the festival area of the Moscheri hamlet. Strolling through the districts to discover the nativity scenes is a wonderful way to experience the valley's winter landscape and its mountain identity.

Traditional festivities

A long sequence of events, organized by local associations, revolves around the nativity scenes throughout the Advent and holiday period:

  • Saint Nicholas and the Krampus in Boccaldo, featuring the historic figure of the saint accompanied by the alpine Krampus masks;
  • the arrival of Saint Lucy in the hamlets of Pozza and Porte, eagerly awaited by children;
  • the missionary market in Pozza;
  • the arrival of Santa Claus in Moscheri;
  • the New Year's Concert in the Church of the Most Holy Trinity in Porte, featuring the Ludovico Viadana Choir;
  • the arrival of the Befana in Vanza, which concludes the festivities on Epiphany.

Part of the Natali della Vallagarina

Trambileno is one of the "Villages of Nativity Scenes" that make up the Natali della Vallagarina, the major Christmas program coordinated by the Rovereto and Vallagarina Tourist Board, which unites the cities, villages, and valleys of the territory. Together with the nativity scenes in other towns of the valley, those in Trambileno help make the Vallagarina, in Trentino-Alto Adige, one of the most evocative destinations in the region during the Advent and holiday season.
