Ecological Day

A day dedicated to the land

The Ecological Day is one of the most cherished events in the spring calendar of Spormaggiore, a small town in the Autonomous Province of Trento nestled on the Paganella Plateau, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. Organized by the Pro Loco Spormaggiore APS, the event brings together citizens, volunteers, and local associations for a morning dedicated to cleaning and maintaining public spaces, fostering a spirit of collaboration and community.

How it works

The meeting point is usually the town square, early in the morning around 8:30 AM on a Sunday in spring. From there, participants divide into groups and split up the various areas to be cleaned: town streets, green areas, riverbanks, trails, and the edges of the woods surrounding the village. Gloves, bags, and materials are provided by the organizers, ensuring everyone can contribute.

A community working as a team

The Spormaggiore Ecological Day is part of a widespread tradition throughout Trentino: every year, over thirty local Pro Loco associations organize similar days, driven by the belief that working together allows for pooling energy and achieving results faster. In Spormaggiore, the initiative is open to everyone, adults and children alike, and holds significant educational value: the youngest learn respect for the environment and civic duty through a concrete, shared action.

The setting: Spormaggiore and the Paganella

Spormaggiore is known for its Wildlife Park and its panoramic position on the Paganella Plateau, just a stone's throw from the Brenta Dolomites. Caring for a territory so rich in nature, forests, and trails is a particularly meaningful commitment for the community. The Ecological Day is the occasion where this bond between the village and the environment translates into action, while strengthening the relationships between the volunteers and the town's associations.
