The Angel's Monday hike through the hills of San Valentino, in Castellarano
When Angel's Monday arrives in Castellarano, in the province of Reggio Emilia, tradition dictates going outdoors. The Camminata di Pasquetta is exactly that: a slow, convivial group walk that winds through the hills of the hamlet of San Valentino, in the Reggio Apennines. It's not a race, but a non-competitive hike open to everyone, designed for those who want to celebrate Easter Monday by walking, away from traffic and immersed in nature.
The approximately 10 km route starts from Piazzale Rolando Rivi, next to the church of San Valentino, and unfolds along the hilly paths surrounding the village. Over the years, the route has enhanced the area's hiking trails, such as the CAI path connecting the Sanctuary of the Beata Vergine di Campiano to the church of San Valentino, with the possibility of guided tours of the historical and religious sites encountered along the way. It's a walk suitable for a wide audience, provided you come with adequate equipment: hiking boots, a backpack, a water bottle, and a rain jacket.
The most anticipated moment comes at the end of the route, when the volunteers from Pro Loco San Valentino welcome participants with an aperitif featuring fried gnocco, one of the most beloved specialties of Emilian gastronomic tradition. It's the perfect way to end the day in good company, regaining the energy spent on the trails and toasting to spring.
The event is promoted by Pro Loco San Valentino, a volunteer association that enhances the cultural, historical, natural, and gastronomic heritage of the hamlet, in collaboration with GERS and with the support of the Municipality of Castellarano. Participation is free but requires mandatory registration to best organize the welcome and final refreshment.
