The Easter Monday grill in the heart of the Canavese region
When Easter Monday arrives, in Baldissero Canavese, there is no debate: you head to the square for a barbecue. The Easter Monday Barbecue organized by the Pro Loco has become a staple event for the residents of this small town in the Province of Turin, nestled at the foot of the Canavese hills, about forty kilometers from the Piedmontese capital. It is a classic village festival: simple, genuine, and centered on good food and the joy of being together after Easter.
Easter Monday has always been the traditional day in Italy for day trips and outdoor dining. In Baldissero, this habit has turned into a collective ritual: instead of scattering, the villagers gather in Piazza Unità d'Italia around the Pro Loco grills. The result is a large community table where neighbors, families, and friends share the same meal. This is the most authentic spirit of Piedmontese village festivals, and you can truly feel it in Baldissero.
The heart of the day is, of course, the grill. The Pro Loco menu features homemade appetizers and a rich mixed grill of meats and vegetables, accompanied by side dishes, dessert, and coffee. Specialties featured in past editions include savory pies, bresaola in sauce, stuffed eggs, vegetable rolls, spare ribs, sausages, skewers, and seasonal grilled vegetables. Everything is washed down with wine and water, with prices designed to be accessible to everyone, both members and non-members, with a reduced rate for children.
The event is entirely organized by the Pro Loco Tourist Association of Baldissero Canavese, which enlivens the village throughout the year with various events, from Easter Monday to summer festivals. Participation in the barbecue requires mandatory reservation: spots are limited, so please book a few days in advance by contacting the Pro Loco representatives. It is the perfect opportunity to discover the hospitality of an authentic Canavese village and welcome spring with a meal in good company.
