The premier summer event for international classical music in Atri
The Duchi d'Acquaviva International Festival is the flagship classical music event in Atri, an elegant village in the province of Teramo, Abruzzo. Organized by the Amici della Musica 2000 Association under the artistic direction of Maestro Algino Battistini, the festival has grown into one of the most anticipated summer events on the Teramo coast and inland, attracting around three hundred musicians from Italy, Europe, and the rest of the world each year.
The festival thrives on a dual vocation: education and performance. Throughout the month of August, over twenty high-level masterclasses are held by internationally renowned instructors, covering a wide range of disciplines: voice, piano, violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, tuba, saxophone, guitar, harp, and bandoneon. Alongside the courses, a rich series of concerts features both the instructors and young students, creating a continuous dialogue between pedagogy and the stage.
The setting is one of the event's greatest strengths. Concerts bring to life the most beautiful corners of Atri and neighboring towns:
The festival is more than just a calendar of performances: it is a true international laboratory where concert practice and teaching find an ideal meeting point. Scholarships, conferences on contemporary musical themes, and ensemble music workshops complete a program that makes Atri a crossroads of talent every summer. For the public, the event is also an opportunity to discover the artistic and landscape heritage of one of Abruzzo's most beautiful villages, among the cathedral, medieval alleys, and the nearby Adriatic coast.
In 2026, the Duchi d'Acquaviva International Festival reaches its 27th edition, scheduled in Atri from August 3 to 28. The program confirms the proven formula that combines advanced training and performance: about thirty concerts and over twenty masterclasses in disciplines including voice, piano, all string and wind instruments, guitar, harp, and bandoneon.
The announced faculty includes prominent names on the international scene: Patrizia Ciofi (voice), pianists Alessandro Deljavan, Maxim Mogilevsky, and Odile Catelin-Delangle, violinists Shlomo Mintz, Oleksandr Semchuk, and Ksenia Milas, as well as Claude Delangle (saxophone), Gabriele Mirabassi and Kevin Spagnolo (clarinet), Aldo Desiderio (guitar), and many others. Concerts will bring to life the Municipal Theatre, the courtyard and cisterns of Palazzo Acquaviva, the Sant'Agostino Auditorium, and various corners of Atri and neighboring towns. Masterclass registration remains open until July 31, 2026.
Atri can be reached by car via the A14 motorway (Atri-Pineto exit), just a few minutes from the Adriatic coast. By train, the reference station is Pineto-Atri on the Adriatic line, connected to the historic center by local buses. The nearest airport is Pescara (Abruzzo Airport), about 40 km away.
Concerts are held in various venues throughout the city; some events are free, while others require a low-cost ticket (generally between 5 and 10 euros). The detailed calendar and information on how to participate in the masterclasses are published on the Amici della Musica 2000 Association website.
In August, Atri and the Teramo coast are very popular: it is advisable to book accommodation in advance. The historic center is easily explored on foot.
