Traditional Aosta Valley craftsmanship in the medieval village of Donnas
Every January, the medieval village of Donnas, in the lower Aosta Valley, hosts the Saint-Ours Fair, a historic event dedicated to traditional Aosta Valley craftsmanship. By tradition, the event anticipates the famous Saint-Ours Fair of Aosta and transforms the village streets, with its arcades and the ancient Roman consular road, into a large open-air market.
The heart of the fair are the exhibitors: for the 2026 edition, 410 artisans are expected, joined by 17 sculpture schools. Among the stalls, you will find wood sculptures and objects, soapstone carvings, wrought iron, textiles, wicker, and typical valley products. There is also an ethnographic exhibition dedicated to old toys and games, a wine museum, a milk museum, and agricultural products offered by Coldiretti Valle d'Aosta.
The fair opens with the Veillà, the evening vigil where the village cellars are opened (22 in the recent edition) amidst ancient crafts, music from the Donnas Band, and choirs. Saturday features the torchlight procession in costume in honor of the artisans and the mass in the chapel of Saint-Ours, while Sunday is dedicated to the official opening, the jury's evaluation, and the awards ceremony for the artisans.
The Donnas Saint-Ours Fair is more than just a market: it is a ritual that tells the story of the identity of the municipality of Donnas, in the province of Aosta, and of the Aosta Valley, where wood and stone craftsmanship is a centuries-old tradition passed down through generations.
The 2026 edition of the Donnas Saint-Ours Fair is scheduled from January 16th to 18th. 410 exhibitors and 17 sculpture schools are expected to showcase their work in the streets of the medieval village. The event opens on Friday with the Veillà and 22 open cellars, continues on Saturday with the torchlight procession and mass in the chapel of Saint-Ours, and culminates on Sunday with the official opening of the fair, jury evaluation, and awards ceremony.
