About Micòoula Festival

Every December 8th, Hône fills with the aromas of Micòoula, the black rye bread enriched with chestnuts, walnuts, dried figs, raisins, and chocolate chips, considered the Aosta Valley ancestor of panettone. The festival, organized by the Associazione Amis de la Micòoula, enlivens the town center with a market of typical products and crafts, bread kneading and baking demonstrations, food stalls, and a Christmas atmosphere. A delicious and identity-rich event in the heart of the lower Aosta Valley.

The Micòoula, festive bread

The Micòoula Festival is the feast that every December 8th celebrates in Hône, in the lower Aosta Valley, its most cherished product: the Micòoula, a black bread made from wheat and rye flour, enriched with chestnuts, walnuts, dried figs, raisins, and chocolate chips. Recognized as a Traditional Agri-food Product (PAT) of the Aosta Valley, it is considered the local ancestor of panettone.

An ancient mountain recipe

Born as a festive bread, the Micòoula tells the story of the valley's peasant culture: a simple dough, made with local products, which over time has been enriched with dried fruit, becoming a special occasion dessert. The festival celebrates its rediscovery and transmission, with bread kneading and baking demonstrations also held at the Maison du Bon Grain.

Market, flavors, and Christmas atmosphere

On December 8th, the center of Hône comes alive with a market of typical Aosta Valley gastronomic products and crafts (woodworking, sculpture, wrought iron), stalls with zero-kilometer specialties, and festive moments. Christmas lights and mulled wine complete a warm and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for the beginning of Advent. The Associazione Amis de la Micòoula organizes everything.

Hône and the lower valley celebrate

The Micòoula Festival is one of the most beloved food and wine events in the Aosta Valley and, on December 8th, it ideally connects with the Christmas initiatives of nearby Bard, a village dominated by the imposing Fort. An opportunity to discover the flavors and traditions of this corner of the valley, amidst bread, chestnuts, and community warmth.
