Piano concerts, art, and cinema at the Giacomo Manzù Museum in Ardea
The Domus Danae Festival is one of the most anticipated cultural events on the coast south of Rome. Organized by the Centro di cultura domus Danae APS, it takes place annually during the first quarter of the year within the evocative Giacomo Manzù Museum in Ardea, in the province of Rome, Lazio. For several weeks, the museum—which houses the works of the great sculptor—becomes the premier concert venue for the entire region.
Each event follows a well-established format that is highly appreciated by the public. The afternoon begins with a short film screening selected by the Tracce Cinematografiche Film Fest, followed by a piano recital performed among Manzù's sculptures. A grand piano, typical of major concert halls, is placed in the center of the room to ensure the best possible acoustic performance.
The artistic direction, led by Maestro Dario Volante, president of the Centro di cultura domus Danae, curates a program each year that showcases young Italian piano talents alongside established artists. The musicians, hailing from Italian conservatories, perform a repertoire ranging from classical to romantic, offering the audience high-quality listening experiences in an intimate and refined setting.
A key element that brings the festival to life is the direct involvement of the audience: spectators are invited to vote for the competing musicians, and the most appreciated performer receives the Airone d'Oro award. This fosters a vibrant connection between artists and the community while rewarding emerging talent.
All events at the Domus Danae Festival are free of charge, reflecting a cultural mission to introduce a wider audience to art music and quality cinema. The festival serves as a landmark for the cultural life of Ardea and the entire area south of the capital, uniting Manzù's sculpture, the grand piano, and the seventh art into a single experience.
The twelfth edition of the Domus Danae Festival was held in Ardea, at the Giacomo Manzù Museum, from January 18 to March 29, 2026, with six bi-weekly piano concerts on Sundays throughout the first quarter. The artistic direction of Maestro Dario Volante presented a program blending music, art, and cinema.
Each day opened in the afternoon with the screening of short films selected by the Tracce Cinematografiche Film Fest, followed by a piano recital performed on a grand piano placed among Manzù's works. The inaugural concert on January 18 featured pianist Filippo Tenisci (born 1998), who specializes in the romantic repertoire. As a new feature of this edition, the audience voted for the performers to award the Airone d'Oro prize. All events were free of charge.
