The short film festival at the Cinema Lux in Aprilia
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Aprilia Film Festival is the premier cinematic event in the town of Aprilia, in the province of Latina, Lazio. Every autumn, the festival brings a curated selection of short films, documentaries, animated works, and music videos to the big screen at the Cinema Lux, aiming to provide visibility to emerging directors and young talents of independent Italian cinema.
The festival was founded in 2018 by actor, director, and producer Federico Paolini, together with the cultural association Cuore Comico, which oversees its artistic direction. In just a few years, the event has become a recognized fixture in the Pontine territory, successfully bridging cinema, music, and public engagement. The festival is held under the patronage of the Municipality of Aprilia, the Lazio Region, the Province of Latina, and the Pro Loco of Aprilia.
The core of the festival is the short film competition, complemented by sections dedicated to documentaries, animated cinema, academic works, and music videos. The jury, composed of industry professionals, awards prizes across various technical and artistic categories: directing, acting, screenwriting, cinematography, editing, and soundtrack, in addition to awards for best short film, the critics' choice, and the audience award.
Evenings at the Cinema Lux blend a passion for the big screen with the convivial atmosphere of a community coming together. Between applause, debates, and the curiosity of discovering new authors, the Aprilia Film Festival offers an accessible and engaging experience, designed for film buffs, families, and local youth alike. The event is a vital part of the cultural landscape of Aprilia and the province of Latina.
The Aprilia Film Festival is traditionally held in October, featuring two days of screenings and award ceremonies at the Cinema Lux in Aprilia.
The Aprilia Film Festival returns in 2026 with its new edition dedicated to auteur short films and young Italian directors. The official dates, the call for entries for filmmakers, and the detailed program have not yet been communicated by the organization.
