International jazz on the stages of Teatro Navalge and Music Club La Grenz
Dolomiti Ski Jazz is the itinerant festival that, every year in early March, transforms the Fassa, Fiemme, and Cembra valleys into a vast, sprawling stage dedicated to jazz and black music. In the Municipality of Moena, in the Province of Trento, the festival finds two of its most important venues: the Teatro Navalge, which hosts the most prominent evening concerts, and the Music Club La Grenz, the hub for jam sessions and more intimate, informal gatherings.
Dolomiti Ski Jazz follows the rhythm of mountain life. Mornings feature concerts directly on the slopes and sunny mountain hut terraces, accessible even to non-skiers via the ski lifts. In the afternoon, music enlivens local bars and mountain lodges, while in the evening, the valley theaters—such as the Navalge in Moena—host the most anticipated performances. It is a formula that weaves together winter sports, nature, and musical culture in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites.
Known as the "Fairy of the Dolomites," Moena is one of the most picturesque towns in Val di Fassa, nestled at the foot of the Catinaccio and Latemar groups. Its Teatro Navalge, a modern cultural facility, offers the ideal acoustics and atmosphere for the festival's major evening concerts, while the Music Club La Grenz keeps the most authentic and convivial side of jazz alive, between signature sets and open jam sessions.
Under the artistic direction of Enrico Tommasini, Dolomiti Ski Jazz attracts nearly a hundred musicians from the Italian and global jazz scenes every year, with over twenty-five concerts spread across numerous locations. Moena has hosted names such as Frank Gambale, Pietro Tonolo, and Emanuele Maniscalco, in a program ranging from swing to blues, funk to soul, and even Latin rhythms.
The festival is about more than just music: the promotion of local products and food and wine culture accompanies the events, inviting the public to discover the flavors of Trentino between concerts. It is the way the festival celebrates the identity of the Ladin valleys, where culinary and musical traditions meet.
Most events offer free admission: concerts at high altitude, in mountain huts, and in local venues are open to everyone. The exceptions are the evening theater shows, including those at Teatro Navalge, for which tickets can be purchased online via VivaTicket. The festival takes place in the Trentino-Alto Adige region and is organized by the Val di Fassa and Val di Fiemme Tourist Boards.
The 2026 edition, the thirtieth, marked an important milestone for the festival directed by Enrico Tommasini: ten days of programming, from March 6 to 15, with nearly a hundred musicians and over 25 concerts across the Fassa, Fiemme, and Cembra valleys, blending jazz, soul, blues, funk, and Latin rhythms.
In Moena, the Music Club La Grenz hosted the concert of saxophonist Pietro Tonolo and pianist Emanuele Maniscalco on Monday, March 9, at 9:30 PM, followed by a jam session. The highlight came on Saturday, March 14, at the Teatro Navalge at 9:00 PM, with the concert of Frank Gambale All Stars, an ensemble led by the Australian guitarist and Grammy Award winner, accompanied by Boca Gambale (vocals), Martin Gudics (bass), Tom Schuman (keyboards), and Gergo Borlai (drums).
In 2026, the festival once again combined concerts with the promotion of typical Trentino products, confirming the spirit that has characterized the festival in the UNESCO Dolomites for three decades.
In Moena, as part of the 30th edition (March 6–15, 2026):
Moena can be reached by car from the A22 Brenner motorway (Egna-Ora or Bolzano Nord exits) by driving up the Val di Fiemme and Val di Fassa along the SS48 Dolomite road. The nearest train station is in Trento, which is connected to the valleys by regular bus services.
Teatro Navalge (evening concerts) and Music Club La Grenz (jam sessions and evening concerts).
Free admission for most high-altitude and local venue concerts. Evening theater shows are ticketed, with tickets available on VivaTicket. Some concerts at Music Club La Grenz offer free entry with an Arci card or tickets available on-site.
