The high-altitude music festival set among the peaks of Trentino, featuring midday concerts reachable on foot.
I Suoni delle Dolomiti is one of Italy's most unique musical events: rather than a traditional theater or town square festival, it is a series of concerts held high in the mountains, on alpine meadows, and in front of the huts and pastures of the Trentino Dolomites. The audience reaches the concert sites on foot, alongside the musicians, because here the hike is an essential and unavoidable part of the experience: you climb to altitude, sit on the grass, and listen to music with the peaks as a natural backdrop.
The festival has no fixed venue; it travels from valley to valley in the heart of Trentino, touching Val di Fiemme, Val di Fassa, Val di Non, the Paganella Plateau, Primiero-San Martino di Castrozza, and Madonna di Campiglio. For the Cavalese and Val di Fiemme area, concerts are held in locations such as Località Tresca in the Cornacci Group and the Bombasel Lakes on the Lagorai chain, which are also reachable via the Alpe Cermis ski lifts that overlook Cavalese. Many locations are accessible via a leisurely walk, while others require a true mountain trek.
Founded in 1995 and organized by Trentino Marketing, the festival is currently under the artistic direction of cellist Mario Brunello. He summarizes the core philosophy: music in the mountains, at high altitude, is heard and experienced differently. The program ranges from classical to world music, jazz, and singer-songwriter performances, with top international guests choosing to perform without a stage, in direct contact with the audience and nature.
Almost all concerts are free of charge. The only ticketed event is the 'Trekking dei Suoni', a multi-day experience that culminates in a high-altitude concert. The festival places great emphasis on environmental sustainability and accessibility, with specific events designed to ensure full participation for people with disabilities. For Cavalese, Val di Fiemme, and the entire Province of Trento, I Suoni delle Dolomiti has become one of the most iconic cultural events of the alpine summer.
The 31st edition of I Suoni delle Dolomiti confirms the formula that made the festival famous: 18 free high-altitude concerts, almost all at midday, set among the mountain huts, pastures, and meadows of the Trentino Dolomites. Under the artistic direction of Mario Brunello, the 2026 program alternates between classical music, jazz, and world music, featuring major international guests.
For the Cavalese and Val di Fiemme territory, two events take place in locations also reachable via the Alpe Cermis lifts: the MediBa 4tet at the Bombasel Lakes on the Lagorai chain, and the Alash Ensemble at Località Tresca in the Cornacci Group. The grand finale is entrusted to Daniele Silvestri on October 3.
Concerts generally take place at midday in mountain locations reachable on foot. Some locations in Val di Fiemme are accessible via the Alpe Cermis ski lifts above Cavalese. Always check travel times and trail difficulty before setting out, and bring appropriate mountain clothing and footwear.
Almost all concerts are free to attend. The exception is the 'Trekking dei Suoni', a ticketed experience requiring reservation. In case of bad weather, concerts may be moved or cancelled: always check for updates on the official website.
