High-altitude concerts between the Pale di San Martino and Val Canali
I Suoni delle Dolomiti is one of the most iconic and beloved festivals of the Trentino summer: a series of open-air concerts held among high-altitude meadows, mountain huts, and alpine shelters, often accessible only on foot. In the Primiero San Martino di Castrozza area, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), the festival finds some of its most evocative settings, right at the foot of the unmistakable spires of the Pale di San Martino.
Here, the journey is part of the performance: before the concert, we walk together along trails of varying difficulty to reach the stage. There are no massive stages or barriers: musicians and the audience share the same space, immersed in the landscape, with the Dolomite peaks acting as a backdrop. The repertoire ranges from classical music to jazz, from singer-songwriter tracks to world music, in a continuous dialogue between sound and nature.
In the district of San Martino di Castrozza, Primiero, Vanoi, and Sagron Mis, the concerts bring to life corners of rare beauty:
Alongside the free concerts, the festival offers the Trekking of Sounds: an exclusive multi-day experience where the audience and musicians walk together, bringing chamber music along the trails of the Pale di San Martino. This is the only ticketed event on the program, with limited spots and guidance from alpine guides.
Organized by Trentino Marketing in collaboration with the Tourist Board of San Martino di Castrozza, Primiero, and Vanoi, the festival has become one of the most defining moments of late summer in Trentino. Listening to a concert at dawn or midday under the Pale di San Martino, after hiking through woods and pastures, is an emotion that uniquely blends culture, nature, and sport.
The 31st edition of the festival takes place from August 24 to October 3, 2026, throughout Trentino. In the territory of Primiero San Martino di Castrozza and its surroundings, three main events are scheduled at the foot of the Pale di San Martino.
Concerts are reached on foot along paths of varying difficulty, accompanied by alpine guides.
San Martino di Castrozza and Val Canali can be reached by car from the Valsugana (exit at Ospedaletto) or from the Val di Fiemme via Passo Rolle. By train, the nearest stations are Feltre or Trento, with bus connections to Primiero.
Most concerts in the Primiero area have free admission. The Trekking of Sounds is ticketed and requires booking, with limited availability.
Concert venues are reached on foot along trails of varying difficulty: wear hiking shoes, bring water, and dress appropriately for the mountains. In case of bad weather, concerts may be moved to indoor venues. Check the official festival website for the program and bookings.
