The food and wine trail of Barbera in the historic center of Montegrosso d'Asti
DiVIN Mongröss is the food and wine festival that brings the historic center of Montegrosso d'Asti to life every year. This small town in the Province of Asti is nestled in the hills of the Monferrato, in Piedmont. The event offers a widespread itinerary through the village streets and squares, where visitors can wander on foot at a relaxed pace, stopping at each station to sample local wines and traditional dishes, all framed by the vineyards and hilly panoramas that have made this land famous.
The heart of the festival is Barbera d'Asti DOC and DOCG, a red wine with a bold character that is the fruit of local farming tradition. The wines are presented directly by the producers, who share the story of their work and guide the tastings. DiVIN Mongröss is part of the "Sinfonia Barbera" project promoted by the Consorzio Barbera d'Asti e Vini del Monferrato, a network of events spread across the territory created to showcase the denomination and Asti's wineries.
Along the trail, local Pro Loco associations and restaurateurs offer the best of Piedmontese cuisine: from fried gnocco with cured meats to agnolotti, from raw beef to risotto with Barbera and fondue, from focaccia to farinata, and even cheeses like Robiola di Roccaverano DOP and desserts such as hazelnut cake.
The evenings are enlivened by live music, ranging from jazz and piano bars to band concerts, accompanying the food and wine stroll through the illuminated streets of the village. The event is organized by the Nuova Pro Loco di Montegrosso d'Asti APS in collaboration with the Municipality, and has become a highly anticipated spring appointment in the Asti area, blending conviviality, tradition, and the discovery of the Monferrato landscape.
The 2026 edition of DiVIN Mongröss in Montegrosso d'Asti had to adjust its program due to adverse weather conditions forecast for Friday, May 15, which led to the cancellation of that evening's events.
At 7:00 PM in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, the official inauguration of the renovated square took place, featuring a ribbon-cutting ceremony and the unveiling of the new artistic fountain donated by the Giovanni Tartaglino family. This was followed by the food and wine trail through the center's streets with wine and food tastings, and at 10:30 PM, a concert by the Pinguini Tattici Nucleari tribute band, "Giovani Wannabe".
From 5:30 PM, the food and wine stands in the historic center reopened, followed at 9:00 PM by the Explosion Band concert, rescheduled from the cancelled Friday session. A free shuttle service from Piazza Saracco was active throughout the festival.
Montegrosso d'Asti is easily reached by car from the A33 Asti-Cuneo motorway (Isola d'Asti exit) or from the main road connecting Asti to Nizza Monferrato. The nearest train station is in Asti, on the Turin-Genoa line.
During the event, a free shuttle service is available from Piazza Saracco to the historic center.
Access to the festival area is free; wine tastings and food are paid for at individual stations by purchasing tickets or directly at the stands.
