About Diorama Festival

Diorama Festival is a travelling project launched in Abruzzo in 2021, aiming to rediscover and showcase extraordinary locations through contemporary artistic languages. In Pineto, in the province of Teramo, the event takes place in the small hilltop village of Mutignano at the Belvedere del Castellaro, where music, visual arts, storytelling, and folk traditions intertwine for a day of free events, set against a landscape stretching from the hills to the Adriatic Sea.

A travelling festival blending contemporary visions with ancient roots

The Diorama Festival is a travelling cultural project launched in Abruzzo in 2021, designed to rediscover and celebrate the region's most extraordinary sites through contemporary expression. Music, visual arts, spoken word, and folk traditions merge in events that bring focus back to the territory and its communities. Over the years, the festival has visited villages, squares, beaches, and unconventional spaces across the four provinces of Abruzzo, bringing contemporary art into stunning scenic settings.

The Pineto stop in Mutignano

In Pineto, in the province of Teramo, Diorama Festival selects the small hilltop village of Mutignano, specifically the evocative Belvedere del Castellaro, which overlooks a panorama stretching from the Teramo hinterland to the Adriatic Sea. It is an intimate, scenic spot that transforms for a day into a sprawling stage where the audience moves between installations, performances, and concerts.

A multidisciplinary program

The festival offers a multidisciplinary format that combines various artistic dimensions:

  • Music: vinyl DJ sets, live electronic acts, and sounds ranging from Italo disco to cinematic atmospheres, with a schedule that accompanies the audience from late afternoon until night.
  • Visual Arts: site-specific performances designed for the location, often created in collaboration with the Academy of Fine Arts of L'Aquila.
  • Storytelling: podcast sessions and live storytelling that place the focus on words and local tales.
  • Folk Traditions: rituals linked to the farming calendar, such as L'Acqua di San Giovanni, curated by the Mutignano Eventi Cultural Association, a summer solstice ritual involving herbs and flowers.

Flavors and community

The artistic program is complemented by street food and tastings of typical Abruzzese products, in a convivial atmosphere that involves local associations and village residents. Diorama Festival is conceived as a community experience, where contemporary art engages with the memory and identity of the places it visits.

A project for the territory

Realized with the patronage of the Municipality of Pineto and supported by local bodies and foundations, Diorama Festival stands as one of the most original experiences in the Abruzzo cultural landscape, capable of bringing contemporary languages to villages and landscapes otherwise outside the usual event circuits. The Mutignano stop, with its Belvedere del Castellaro, is an emblematic example.
