In the heart of the Langhe, nestled on the Dolcetto hills in the province of Cuneo, the town of Diano d'Alba preserves one of Piedmont's most cherished traditions: the Leve Festival. The "leve" are celebrations that reunite 'coscritti'—fellow townspeople born in the same year—in a ritual of gathering that spans generations and strengthens the sense of community every year.

What is DECALEVA

DECALEVA is the evening dedicated to the more mature generations: the name combines deca (ten) and leva (conscription year), as it brings together those born in years ending with the same digit, decades apart. It is a time when those who celebrated their 'leva' many years ago return to reunite with lifelong friends and share memories. It is an evening of celebration, music, and dancing that draws many locals every year.

Where and how

The festival takes place in the square of the San Giovanni Battista church, in the main village of Diano d'Alba. It is managed by the local Pro Loco, which has always coordinated the 'leve' evenings in collaboration with the 'coscritti' themselves. Admission is free, and in traditional editions, a catering service is available under the marquee next to the dance floor.

A local tradition

More than just a spectacular event, DECALEVA is a village festival in the truest sense: live music, open-air dancing, long tables, and an opportunity for the different generations of Diano d'Alba to meet under the bell tower. For those visiting the Langhe in June, it is an authentic window into the community life of this corner of Piedmont, far from the major tourist flows and close to the roots of the territory.
