A grand celebration of theatre, music, and nature at Parco Lavino in Scafa
CuntaFesta is the annual event that concludes the season for the CuntaTerra cultural association, bringing theatre, music, and nature to the heart of Scafa, a small town in the province of Pescara, Abruzzo. The festival takes place at the Balera del Parco Lavino, a natural amphitheatre located in the Vecchio Mulino area, within the stunning Parco delle Sorgenti Sulfuree del Lavino, famous for its striking turquoise waters.
Launched in 2023 to celebrate CuntaTerra's first five years, CuntaFesta has established itself as a full day of sharing, where students from the association's workshops—children, teenagers, and adults—present the results of their year-long efforts to the community. The programme alternates between theatre performances, folk music concerts, traditional Abruzzese dances, creative workshops, yoga and sound bath sessions, and communal dining.
The artistic direction brings together theatre, curated by actor and trainer Marcello Sacerdote, and music, led by maestro Sebastian Giovannucci. On the natural stage of the Balera, various companies and groups associated with the collective perform readings, songs, children's shows, and folk dance sets. The collaboration with the Globuli Green association, which manages part of the park, enriches the day with a focus on sustainability, a green market, and authentic local cuisine.
What makes CuntaFesta truly special is its setting: Parco Lavino is a protected natural area spanning nearly 38 hectares, traversed by the Lavino River and its sulfur springs with their unmistakable turquoise hues. In this landscape, the event blends culture, wellness, and conviviality, offering adults and children an experience that goes far beyond a simple performance. Admission to CuntaFesta is free, though reservations are required for the green lunch and dinner.
CuntaFesta embodies the mission of CuntaTerra: to offer, as Marcello Sacerdote himself explains, "a social service that, through art and culture, allows people to learn, grow," and rediscover the authentic beauty of sharing. It is an event that, year after year, renews the bond between the community of Scafa, the Abruzzo region, and one of its most fascinating natural corners.
CuntaFesta 2026 enlivened the entire day on Sunday, June 21, at the Balera del Parco Lavino in Scafa, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 PM, with free admission. A packed programme alternated between performances, music, dance, and wellness, involving adults and children in a celebration immersed in the nature of the Lavino springs.
The Balera del Parco Lavino is located in Scafa (PE), in the Vecchio Mulino area, within the Parco delle Sorgenti Sulfuree del Lavino, in the Decontra locality. By car, it can be reached from the Scafa-Alanno motorway exit (A25) and then by following the provincial road to Decontra. Access to the park is free.
The event takes place throughout the day, from morning until evening. Admission to CuntaFesta is free. Reservations are required for the green lunch and dinner.
