The road race in Aversa that bridges sport with the memory of the Julian-Dalmatian exodus
The Corsa del Ricordo is a road race held in Aversa, in the heart of the Caserta province, Campania. The event is part of a national circuit launched in Rome with the goal of linking sports activity to the memory of a painful chapter in Italian history: the Julian-Dalmatian exodus and the tragedy of the foibe. Running thus becomes a symbolic gesture, a way to remember through sport and to pass on the value of memory to new generations.
The race follows a route of approximately 10 kilometers (9.9 km) within Parco Salvino Pozzi and along the surrounding streets of Aversa's town center. Athletes gather in the early morning, with the start and finish lines located within the city park, one of the green lungs of the Norman town. The circuit, which consists of multiple laps, is designed to accommodate both competitive runners and enthusiasts who wish to experience the event with a spirit of participation.
The event is organized by ASD ASI Polisportiva Bellona in conjunction with the ASI Provincial Committee of Caserta and the Campania Regional Committee, in collaboration with the National Association of Venezia Giulia and Dalmatia (ANVGD). The official presentation is held annually in the Sala del Ricordo at the Aversa Town Hall, highlighting the bond between the event and the local administration. Beyond the athletic dimension, the Corsa del Ricordo preserves and shares the history of the Istrian, Fiume, and Dalmatian exiles.
Now in its third edition in Aversa, the event has established itself as one of the most heartfelt running appointments in the Caserta area during the month of July. The high turnout, with athletes from numerous sports clubs across Campania, confirms the event's ability to combine competition, social engagement, and civic commitment. The most recent edition also paid tribute to Sandro Giorgi, a historic promoter and organizer of the event who recently passed away.
