A run and walk through the Mining Museum Park on Mount Amiata
The Corriminiera Memorial Coppi Daniele Tropicana is one of the most evocative running events in southern Tuscany. It takes place in Abbadia San Salvatore, in the province of Siena, inside the Mining Museum Park. Visitors here won't find just any circuit, but a track that crosses the squares, tunnels, and forests of the ancient Amiata mercury district, one of the most important in Europe until the second half of the 20th century.
The event is organized by UISP Abbadia San Salvatore in collaboration with the Mining Museum Park and the Municipality, and is ideally linked to the National Mining Day. It is much more than a race: it is a way to rediscover the identity of a town built around underground work, now transformed into a place of culture, hiking, and slow tourism at the foot of the old extinct volcano of Mount Amiata.
The event offers two complementary formats:
Those who do not wish to run can still explore the site at their own pace, immersed in the greenery of Amiata and among the restored industrial landmarks.
Corriminiera is part of the 2026 Strade d'Oro Circuit, the trail and road running calendar of the FIDAL Tuscany Regional Committee, which brings together thirteen races across the region from April to December. Athletes with a 2026 FIDAL membership, sports promotion bodies, and Runcard holders can participate, with club and individual rankings and a final gala evening.
Abbadia San Salvatore is nestled between the Val d'Orcia, the Maremma, and the Tyrrhenian horizon: an ideal base for combining sports, nature, and culture. Between the Benedictine abbey that gives the town its name, the trails of Mount Amiata, and the Mining Museum Park, Corriminiera is the perfect opportunity to discover an authentic corner of Tuscany far from the main tourist flows.
Corriminiera 2026 is scheduled for Sunday, May 31 in Abbadia San Salvatore (SI), at the Mining Museum Park. The date is official and is part of the 2026 Strade d'Oro Circuit of FIDAL Tuscany, being the fourth of thirteen regional stages (after Pietrasanta, Certaldo, and Arezzo). This edition will also feature the competitive trail of approximately 9.7 km within the mining perimeter and the walk open to everyone in the Amiata woods.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including meeting and start times, registration fees, and prizes, will be published by UISP Abbadia San Salvatore in the weeks leading up to the race.
The detailed hourly program for the 2026 edition will be announced by UISP Abbadia San Salvatore in the weeks before the event. Based on the usual structure of Corriminiera, two events are planned:
Meeting and start at the Mining Museum Park.
Stage of the 2026 Strade d'Oro Circuit of FIDAL Tuscany. Unique course inside the Mining Museum Park, with a tunnel passage. Memorial dedicated to Coppi Daniele Tropicana.
Abbadia San Salvatore can be reached by car from the A1 motorway (Chiusi-Chianciano or Fabro exits) by following signs for Mount Amiata. The reference train station is Chiusi-Chianciano Terme, which is connected to the town by bus lines. The meeting point and start are at the Mining Museum Park.
Registrations are handled by UISP Abbadia San Salvatore; the race is open to FIDAL members, sports promotion bodies, and Runcard holders, while the walk is open to everyone.
Wear trail shoes suitable for the mixed terrain of the mining perimeter. Take advantage of the day to visit the Mining Museum Park and the trails of Mount Amiata.
