The mountain bike festival on Monte Amiata, at Prato delle Macinaie
Every summer, Prato delle Macinaie, on the Sienese side of Monte Amiata, transforms into the Italian capital of mountain biking for an entire weekend. Amiata Bike Fest is the annual celebration of the Amiata Freeride Bike Resort, located in the territory of Abbadia San Salvatore, in the province of Siena. It is more than just a race; it is a gathering that brings together riders, families, enthusiasts, and curious onlookers, all united by the same passion: riding through the woods of Amiata.
The festival was born and has grown within one of Central Italy's most beloved bike parks, nestled in Europe's largest beech forest. Here, trails wind through ancient beech trees, featuring iconic paths like 8Volante and Froggy, alongside enduro routes and downhill lines for every skill level.
The 2026 edition is the most significant to date. Two major milestones are being celebrated: the 20th anniversary of the ASD Amiata Freeride, the association that turned Amiata into a premier destination for mountain biking, enduro, and downhill, and the 10th anniversary of the Bike Park at the Macinaie. Making the season even more special is the debut of Italy's first bike lift: the "Asso di Fiori" lift, inaugurated on June 13, 2026, is the country's first ski lift retrofitted and authorized for bicycle transportโa groundbreaking innovation that allows riders to ascend comfortably without pedaling uphill.
Amiata Bike Fest is designed for everyone: from expert riders seeking the adrenaline of technical trails to families and children approaching the discipline for the first time. Past editions have featured a program alternating between bike tests, guided excursions, trail-building contests, bike shows, yoga sessions, and plenty of music with evening DJ sets. Cold beers, great food, and the essential family vibe complete the experience.
Heading up to Prato delle Macinaie means experiencing the Tuscan mountains in a sporty, contemporary way, far from the clichรฉs. Amiata Bike Fest is the perfect opportunity to discover a national-level bike park, breathe in the fresh air of the beech forest, and immerse yourself in a welcoming community. It is an event that showcases how Monte Amiata, between Siena and the Maremma, has become one of Tuscany's most dynamic outdoor hubs.
The 2026 edition of the Amiata Bike Fest, the fifth in its history, is held from July 3 to 5, 2026, at Prato delle Macinaie. It is an anniversary edition: celebrating the 20th anniversary of the ASD Amiata Freeride and the 10th anniversary of the Bike Park at the Macinaie.
The big news for the 2026 season is the debut of Italy's first bike lift, the "Asso di Fiori" lift inaugurated on June 13, 2026: the first ski lift in the country authorized for bicycle transport, which changes the way the bike park is experienced by allowing riders to ascend effortlessly to tackle trails like 8Volante and Froggy.
The festival offers three days dedicated to the world of cycling (July 3, 4, and 5, 2026), with outdoor activities, riding sessions on the bike park trails, bike tests, musical entertainment, and initiatives to promote the local area.
The detailed day-by-day program (timings, contests, guided excursions, DJ sets, and guests) will be announced by the Amiata Freeride Bike Resort in the weeks leading up to the event. Based on past editions, expect: bike tests, guided excursions on the beech forest trails, contests and bike shows, trail-building sessions, musical entertainment with DJ sets, and moments dedicated to families and children.
Prato delle Macinaie can be reached by car by driving up from Abbadia San Salvatore (SI) along the Monte Amiata road. By train, the reference station is Chiusi-Chianciano Terme, from where you can continue by car or bus toward the Amiata.
Abbadia San Salvatore and the surrounding Amiata villages (Piancastagnaio, Castel del Piano, Arcidosso) offer numerous accommodations, farmhouses (agriturismi), and mountain huts near Prato delle Macinaie.
Bring your own mountain bike or rent one on-site; bike tests are available during the festival. Helmets and protective gear are mandatory on the trails. For information and bookings, contact the Amiata Freeride Bike Resort.
