About Alliste Flower Festival

Every year, for the feast of Corpus Domini, the center of Alliste transforms into a hundred-meter-long floral carpet. Since 2019, the Infiorata Felline Association has created a series of religious-themed floral panels in Piazza San Quintino, in front of the Mother Church, recognized by the Province of Lecce and the Puglia Region as the largest flower festival in the region. In the evening, following the solemn mass, the procession of the Blessed Sacrament crosses the carpet, releasing its fragrance in a gesture that unites faith, ephemeral art, and community.

The largest flower festival in Puglia

In the small Salento village of Alliste, in the Province of Lecce, the solemnity of Corpus Domini is anticipated all year round. Since 2019, the community has rallied around a young but already defining tradition: the Corpus Domini Flower Festival, a carpet of petals that covers the heart of the town, recognized by the Province of Lecce and the Puglia Region as the largest regional flower festival.

A hundred-meter carpet in Piazza San Quintino

The floral workshop takes place in Piazza San Quintino, in front of the Mother Church, where every year a carpet about one hundred meters long and four meters wide is composed, divided into a dozen panels inspired by a different religious theme each year. It is created by dozens of volunteers and artists from the Infiorata Felline Association, supported by an entire community that, in the hours leading up to the feast, kneels on the pavement to lay flower after flower.

The petal technique

The uniqueness of the Alliste flower festival lies in the processing of materials: alongside whole petals, artists use petals ground into a fine powder, which allows for precise definition of design details and color shading. All materials are natural and biodegradable, consistent with the ephemeral nature of the work, intended to last only a few hours.

The procession of the Blessed Sacrament

The highlight arrives in the evening, after the solemn mass celebrated in the square. The procession of the Blessed Sacrament travels through the streets of the town and passes directly over the floral carpet: as it is stepped upon, the petals release all their fragrance, transforming the liturgical gesture into a sensory and spiritual experience deeply felt by the community. The flower festival pays homage to the Sacrament of the Eucharist, and in autumn, the same art returns to bloom to honor Saint Quintinus, the town's patron saint.

Alliste, Salento, and its devotion

Located in lower Salento, a few kilometers from the Ionian coast, the Municipality of Alliste proudly preserves this event, which is part of the great tradition of Corpus Domini flower festivals spread throughout Italy. For visitors, it is an opportunity to discover an authentic village in Puglia far from the most touristy circuits, where folk art and spirituality intertwine in a free celebration open to everyone.

Alliste Flower Festival — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Alliste Flower Festival took place on June 6 and 7 for the solemnity of Corpus Domini, with the theme "From Creation to Salvation" developed in twelve floral panels. The hundred-meter carpet in Piazza San Quintino was crossed by the procession of the Blessed Sacrament on the evening of Sunday, June 7.

For the 2026 edition, the Infiorata Felline Association chose the theme «From Creation to Salvation», divided into twelve panels that each tell a fundamental stage of the journey toward salvation. The floral carpet of about one hundred meters was created in Piazza San Quintino, in front of the Mother Church, using whole petals and petals ground into powder to define the details.

The celebrations culminated on Sunday, June 7, with the evening solemn mass in the square and the subsequent procession of the Blessed Sacrament, which crossed the flower carpet amidst the scents and colors of the work.
