The Pro Loco evening at Parco di Montegrappa, featuring Salento flavors and rural traditions
The Knowledge Festival is a staple of the summer in Tuglie, a small town in the province of Lecce, in the heart of Salento. The event takes place at Parco di Montegrappa, the wooded hill overlooking the town, and is organized by the Pro Loco as part of the rich calendar of food festivals and folk evenings that enliven the park throughout the summer season.
Parco di Montegrappa is no ordinary place. At the top of the hill—the final offshoot of the Salento Murgia—stands the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Montegrappa, built in 1940 at the behest of Mayor Cesare Vergine, a veteran of the Great War who had fought on Monte Grappa in Veneto. At the foot of the church lie the Park of Remembrance and the Shrine dedicated to the fallen. It is in this setting of greenery and memory that the Tuglie community gathers every year.
For many years, the Pro Loco of Tuglie has welcomed tourists and, above all, the many Tuglie emigrants who return to the town in the summer to Parco di Montegrappa. In the cool shade of the trees, visitors can enjoy traditional dishes of local cuisine, prepared according to ancient customs and the rural traditions of Salento. The Knowledge Festival lives up to its name: an opportunity for meeting, exchanging ideas, and rediscovering common roots.
Like the other evenings in the Montegrappa calendar, the festival focuses on Salento gastronomy: typical products, traditional recipes, and genuine flavors served at the stalls. The tasting is accompanied by folk music and dancing under the stars, in a festive atmosphere that involves entire families and visitors of all ages, both in the town of Tuglie and throughout the Salento region of Puglia.
The 2026 edition is scheduled for Thursday, August 6 at Parco di Montegrappa. In the Pro Loco's summer calendar, the festival fits in among other events in July and August, such as the festivals dedicated to traditional Tuglie dishes. The detailed program for the evening will be announced by the Pro Loco of Tuglie in the weeks leading up to the event.
The 2026 Knowledge Festival takes place on August 6 at Parco di Montegrappa, in the municipality of Tuglie (province of Lecce). The event is part of the summer calendar of the Pro Loco of Tuglie, which enlivens the Montegrappa hill throughout the season with festivals and folk evenings. At the heart of the festival remain the typical dishes of Salento cuisine, music, and conviviality, in a symbolic place for the Tuglie community at the foot of the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Montegrappa. The complete musical program for the evening will be announced by the Pro Loco in the weeks preceding the event.
Tuglie is located in lower Salento, along the route connecting Lecce to Gallipoli. By car, it can be reached via the SS101 Lecce-Gallipoli highway, taking the Tuglie exit; the town is also served by the Ferrovie del Sud Est railway. Parco di Montegrappa is signposted within the town, on the hill of the same name.
Admission to the festival is free. Tastings of traditional dishes are available at the food stalls at popular prices.
Dates, updated programs, and details are published by the Pro Loco of Tuglie on their official channels.
