The volunteer firefighter self-contained breathing apparatus skill competition in Carisolo, Val Rendena
In the municipality of Carisolo, a small town in Val Rendena in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), the annual "Cori ca 'l brüsa" event returns, organized by the Carisolo Volunteer Fire Department in collaboration with the local Pro Loco. The name, in the local dialect, roughly translates to "run because it's burning": an ironic and affectionate nod to the firefighter's trade and the spirit of readiness that drives the volunteer corps.
The heart of the day is the technical skill competition using self-contained breathing apparatus, held in the afternoon in the sports hall bar square. Volunteer firefighter teams test themselves on a course that demands speed, coordination, and operational readiness, simulating training scenarios for emergency interventions. Wearing their breathing apparatus, competitors face trials that mirror real rescue conditions, while the public cheers on the various stages of the competition.
"Cori ca 'l brüsa" is more than just a competition: it is a true community festival that involves the entire town. At the end of the trials, the evening continues with dinner and the awards ceremony for the teams, followed by live music and dancing. It is an opportunity to celebrate the role of civil protection volunteering, so deeply rooted in the Trentino valleys, and to share a moment of togetherness among firefighters, families, and visitors.
In Trentino, the Volunteer Firefighter system is a pillar of local safety and identity: almost every municipality has its own corps, made up of citizens who dedicate their time and energy to protecting the community. Events like the one in Carisolo, along with the circuit competitions involving various provincial corps, help maintain high training standards and showcase the daily commitment of these volunteers, set against the extraordinary natural backdrop of the Brenta Dolomites and the Adamello.
On Saturday, June 6, 2026, Carisolo hosted a new edition of "Cori ca 'l brüsa", the volunteer firefighter event.
