A neighborhood parade featuring giant crepe paper flowers in Cepagatti
Contrade in Fiore is the event that brings the streets of Cepagatti, a town in the province of Pescara, Abruzzo, to life every May. Launched in 2025 by the Associazione Centro Sociale Ricreativo Culturale Sant'Agata, it is a community festival where the town's neighborhoods compete with creative floral displays made entirely from crepe paper. The result is an open-air trail dotted with giant flowers, garlands, and colorful arrangements that adorn the streets, walls, and courtyards of the various districts.
The stars of the event are the neighborhoods of Santuccione, Cantò, Moncocitto, and Sant'Agata, which spend the preceding weeks preparing decorations with the help of entire families. The rivalry is the typical local village spirit, experienced with great camaraderie: each neighborhood showcases its ingenuity to amaze visitors and win the community's appreciation. It is a young tradition, yet already deeply felt, capable of bringing different generations together through shared manual work.
The heart of the day is the neighborhood parade: a procession that starts at the Marcantonio Sports Field and winds through the festively decorated streets, with refreshment stops in the neighborhoods along the route. The walk covers Via Santuccione, Via Cantò, Via Casanova, Via Moncocitto, and Via delle Cascate, concluding at the Centro Sociale Sant'Agata, where food stalls and social gatherings await.
Contrade in Fiore is a wonderful example of how a village in the Pescara province can reinvent its collective identity, rediscovering the joy of celebrating together along its own streets.
The second edition of Contrade in Fiore confirmed the success of its debut, bringing the festival of neighborhoods decorated with crepe paper creations back to Cepagatti. The 2026 edition was organized by the Associazione Centro Sociale Ricreativo Culturale Sant'Agata, chaired by Luigi Giampaolo, with the involvement of the Santuccione, Cantò, Moncocitto, and Sant'Agata neighborhoods.
The day combined the care of floral arrangements with the conviviality of the procession along the town streets, with refreshment stops in the neighborhoods crossed and a closing event at the Centro Sociale Sant'Agata.
Cepagatti is located in the province of Pescara, just a few kilometers from the regional capital. By car, it can be reached via the A25 Chieti-Pescara motorway exit and the SS5 Tiburtina Valeria road. The nearest train station is Cepagatti-Villanova on the Rome-Pescara line.
The procession gathers at the Marcantonio Sports Field and concludes at the Centro Sociale Sant'Agata, on Via Sant'Agata.
The event is free to attend. Refreshment points are available along the route and at the finish line.
Wear comfortable shoes for the walk through the neighborhoods and bring a camera: the floral displays are the perfect subject for some great photos.
