About Forest Festival

The Compitese Forest and Monte Pisano Festival transforms the 'Borgo delle Camelie' (Camellia Village) of Pieve and Sant'Andrea di Compito, hamlets of Capannori near Lucca, into a vast open-air laboratory. Over three Sundays in June, amidst woods, tea plantations, and camellias, the event hosts trekking, theatrical performances, nature dance, children's workshops, yoga, forest bathing, book presentations, and locally sourced food and wine. A free festival that weaves together culture, environment, and tradition on the slopes of Monte Pisano.

A festival immersed in the greenery of Compitese

The Compitese Forest and Monte Pisano Festival is a widespread event that brings the Borgo delle Camelie to life for three Sundays in June. Located in the hamlets of Pieve and Sant'Andrea di Compito, within the municipality of Capannori in the province of Lucca, Tuscany, the festival is organized by the Centro Culturale Compitese cooperative with the patronage of the Municipality of Capannori. It is rooted in the deep connection this territory shares with its forests, the waters of Monte Pisano, and the ancient tradition of camellias and tea.

Culture, nature, and wellness in a single program

The heart of the Forest Festival is a packed calendar featuring around one hundred events each year, distributed over three Sundays, each dedicated to a different theme. Along the trails and in the courtyards of the village, visitors can enjoy guided trekking on Monte Pisano, free evening theatrical performances, nature dance shows, creative and botanical workshops, book presentations, and sessions of yoga, meditation, and forest bathing.

  • Workshops for families and children: chainsaw carving, natural weaving, wood painting, Japanese Washi paper, puppets, and marionettes;
  • Nature experiences: family orienteering, ethnobotanical walks, bee observation, and visits to the tea plantation;
  • Free evening shows featuring theatre, African dance, and storytelling;
  • Trekking for all levels, from the Sasso Balloccioro loop to the ascent of Monte Zano.

The Zero-Kilometre Food Space

An integral part of the experience is the Food Space, open for both lunch and dinner, where you can taste products from local Compitese producers: charcuterie and cheese boards, panzanella, pasta and chickpeas, grilled meats, gourmet sandwiches, and traditional Lucchese cakes. Wine, olive oil, cheese, honey, and vegetables come directly from local farms, in the spirit of a short supply chain.

An event for the whole family

All public events at the Forest Festival are free of charge: only certain experiential activities, such as trekking and workshops, require a participation fee and booking. It is an ideal opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the Lucca area, far from mass tourism circuits, and to experience culture in the open air among the woods of Monte Pisano.
