The Slow Food market for good, clean, and fair food in Piazza della Libertà, Romagnano Sesia
Every spring, Piazza della Libertà in Romagnano Sesia, located in the heart of the Bassa Valsesia in the Province of Novara, transforms into the stage for the Colline Novaresi Earth Market. This event marks the opening of the itinerant Earth Market circuit promoted by the Slow Food Colline Novaresi chapter: a gathering that focuses on good, clean, and fair food and the direct relationship between producers and consumers.
The Earth Market is part of the international Slow Food Earth Market network, created to shorten the supply chain and strengthen awareness of shopping based on local products. The Colline Novaresi branch opened its doors in April 2024, following years of work to involve small local producers, and today it brings together a community of dozens of businesses that respect the environment and biodiversity.
In the square, you will meet about twenty small producers and food artisans offering fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced goods. Stalls include:
The market is entirely plastic-free: only compostable tableware and cutlery are used, in line with the philosophy of respecting the territory promoted by Slow Food.
The event is about more than just quality shopping. For children, there is face painting and roaming magic shows, while music and entertainment accompany the day. The refreshment area managed by the Pro Loco offers hot dishes prepared with local products, for a lunch dedicated to local flavors.
The Romagnano Sesia event takes place in conjunction with the FAI Spring Days, offering the opportunity to visit open cultural sites in the area on the same day. The initiative is organized by the Slow Food Colline Novaresi chapter together with the Municipality of Romagnano Sesia and the Pro Loco, with the collaboration of schools and local cultural entities such as the Bonfantini Institute, the Casorati Art High School, and the Historical and Ethnographic Museum of Bassa Valsesia.
The 2026 edition of the Romagnano event took place on Sunday, March 22, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, in Piazza della Libertà. About twenty producers offered gourmet snails, flour and rice, blonde onion compote, artisanal sweets, craft beer, and locally sourced fruit and vegetables.
The day was enlivened by the Pro Loco refreshment area, Ottavia's face painting, Mago Claudius's roaming magic shows, and music by Radio Valsesia. The event coincided with the FAI Spring Days and was the first stage of the 2026 circuit, which continued in Borgomanero, Cureggio, Fontaneto d'Agogna, and Carpignano Sesia.
Romagnano Sesia is located in the Province of Novara, along the Sesia valley. By car, it can be reached from the A26 motorway (Romagnano Sesia–Ghemme exit); by train, the Romagnano Sesia station is served by the Novara–Varallo line. Piazza della Libertà is in the historic center.
The market is open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM with free admission.
Bring reusable shopping bags: the market is plastic-free and prioritizes sustainability. A refreshment area managed by the Pro Loco is available.
