The great Celtic and Irish festival on Lake Orta
Claddagh Fest is the festival that every late September turns Ameno, a village overlooking Lake Orta in the province of Novara, into a large village dedicated to Irish and Celtic culture. The name recalls the Claddagh ring, an ancient Irish symbol of love, friendship, and loyalty: an image that perfectly captures the convivial spirit of the event, where music, traditions, and fine food blend with the discovery of the Cusio territory.
For three days, the historic center of Ameno, the Neogothic Park, the Tornielli Museum, and the village spaces host live folk music concerts, Irish and Scottish dance performances, and roaming musicians and dancers. The festival celebrates the encounter between Piedmontese culture and that of the Celtic lands—Ireland, Scotland, Brittany, Wales—involving Italian and international groups and artists who take turns on stage until late at night.
Among the most beloved attractions are the Highland Games, traditional Scottish tests of strength designed for both adults and children, and historical re-enactments with camps, historical fencing, and archery. Along the village streets, the Celtic market winds through with dozens of artisans, jewelers, and luthiers displaying folk musical instruments, decorative objects, and creations inspired by the Celtic world. There are also music and dance workshops (Celtic harp, tin whistle, fiddle, bodhrán), children's workshops, lectures on myths and legends, as well as food stalls with Celtic-inspired dishes and local wines.
Claddagh Fest is a deeply participatory event: the entire community of Ameno is involved in the organization, from the young people who handle promotion and logistics to the residents who contribute to the scenery. Organized by the La Rosa D'Eventi Cultural Association with the support of local associations, the festival has exceeded ten thousand visitors over the years, becoming one of the reference Celtic events in Piedmont and all of Northern Italy. Admission to the event is free.
The seventh edition of Claddagh Fest will be held in Ameno (NO) from Friday, September 25 to Sunday, September 27, 2026, confirming the usual late September appointment on Lake Orta. For 2026, three days of folk and Celtic music concerts, Irish and Scottish dances, Highland Games, an artisan and luthier market, historical re-enactments, workshops, and food stalls are expected, all with free admission. At the moment, the complete program with artist names, times, and stages has not yet been published: it will be made known by the organization on official channels in the weeks leading up to the event.
The detailed program for the 7th edition, including the line-up, times, and stages, will be announced by the organization in the weeks preceding the event. Based on past editions, the three days will feature live folk and Celtic music concerts, Irish dance performances and workshops, Highland Games, historical re-enactments, lectures on myths and legends, children's workshops, a Celtic market with artisans and luthiers, and food stalls.
Ameno is located in the province of Novara, in the hills above Lake Orta. By car, it can be reached from the A26 motorway (Borgomanero or Arona exit) by continuing towards the Cusio area. By train, the most convenient station is Orta-Miasino, on the Novara–Domodossola line, from where you can continue by bus or taxi.
Access to the festival is free. Some workshops and music masterclasses may require an entry fee.
Days can be cool in the evening: comfortable, layered clothing is recommended. Nearby, you will find hotels, farm stays, and a camper area. It is advisable to book your accommodation well in advance during the festival days.
