The multidisciplinary festival that transforms the village of Lari into a performance city featuring theatre, dance, music, and new sound technologies.
The Collinarea Sound Festival is one of the most recognizable cultural events in inland Tuscany. Every summer, the medieval village of Lari, in the municipality of Casciana Terme Lari (Province of Pisa), transforms into a true performance city: squares, alleys, courtyards, and the spaces of the Vicari Castle host over two weeks of contemporary theatre, dance, circus, performances, and concerts. Some events also take place at the La Rotta River Park, in the territory of Pontedera.
The festival's hallmark is the encounter between live arts and research into sound and new technologies. Alongside its multidisciplinary programme, Collinarea offers immersive listening experiences, sound installations, and moments of scientific insight, with a particular focus on acoustic and multisensory perception. This vocation has led the festival to be enriched in recent years by the Collinarea PhD Summer School, a doctoral summer school dedicated to the study of sound through neuroscience, physics, engineering, and philosophy.
The festival is conceived and produced by the Sartoria Caronte company, under the artistic direction of Loris Seghizzi. Over the years, Collinarea has hosted Italian and international companies, national premieres, and original productions, building an identity that unites the tradition of experimental theatre with technological innovation. The closing moment of each edition is the Opera Ubiqua, a widespread performance that involves the entire village with multiple stages and dozens of artists on scene.
Supported by the Ministry of Culture and the Tuscany Region, as well as the Municipality of Casciana Terme Lari, the Collinarea Sound Festival is now a highly anticipated event of the Tuscan summer, capable of attracting audiences, artists, and scholars to a small village that becomes a laboratory of art and sound for a few weeks.
The 28th edition of the Collinarea Sound Festival takes place from July 16 to August 1, 2026, in the village of Lari (Casciana Terme Lari, Province of Pisa) and at the La Rotta River Park in Pontedera. The theme chosen for 2026 is "Beyond technology", the guiding thread of a programme that intertwines live arts, music, and sound research. The artistic direction is by Loris Seghizzi, assisted by Mirco Mencacci for the sound section, with production by Sartoria Caronte. The edition is supported by the Ministry of Culture and the Tuscany Region.
The 2026 edition, dedicated to the theme "Beyond technology", alternates theatre, dance, and contemporary circus performances with immersive sound experiences (Navicella Sonora, Cosmophon, Dolby Atmos listening), training workshops, and a local theatre choir.
The full programme, with evening schedules and times, is published on the official website collinarea.it.
Lari is a district of the Municipality of Casciana Terme Lari, in the Province of Pisa. By car, it can be reached from the SGC FI-PI-LI highway, taking the Pontedera exit and continuing towards the Pisan hills. The nearest train station is Pontedera-Casciana Terme, on the Florence-Pisa line, connected to the village by bus services.
Most performances are ticketed, with sales managed online via the Liveticket platform and at the box office on-site during the evenings. Several installations and festival sessions are free of charge. We recommend checking the official website for updated rates and pre-sales.
The village is characterized by alleys and inclines: comfortable shoes are recommended. On summer evenings, it is advisable to book the most popular shows in advance.
