About Collicello Bean Festival

In Collicello, a small hamlet of Amelia in the province of Terni, a festival is held dedicated to three traditional Umbrian peasant dishes: the Amerino cottora bean — an ancient legume protected as a Slow Food Presidium — carbonara polenta and Collicello-style wild boar. The festival accompanies the celebrations in honour of the Madonna delle Grazie and brings the scents and rhythms of the Amerino countryside into the village homes.

The village of Collicello and the cottora bean

The festival takes place in Collicello, a hamlet of about two hundred inhabitants in the municipality of Amelia, in the province of Terni. The heart of the festival is the Amerino cottora bean, a local variety of bean with a thin skin that remains soft even when dry: an ancient legume, now protected as a Slow Food Presidium, a symbol of the poor and identity-rich cuisine of southern Umbria.

Three traditional dishes

Alongside the cottora bean, the festival celebrates two other local specialities: carbonara polenta and Collicello-style wild boar, prepared according to the village recipe. The food stalls, managed by the Pro Loco of Collicello, offer these dishes along with other Umbrian cuisine courses, in a village festival atmosphere.

Between faith and tradition

The event takes place concurrently with the celebrations in honour of the Madonna delle Grazie, intertwining the gastronomic dimension with the religious and community aspects. It is an opportunity to discover an authentic village in the Amerino region and a food and wine tradition that endures thanks to the commitment of the local community.

The 11th edition of the festival returns to Collicello di Amelia from July 16 to 25, 2026, accompanying the celebrations in honour of the Madonna delle Grazie (July 16).
