The city-wide music festival that turns Cuneo into an open-air stage
Città in Note – The Music of Places is one of the most original musical events in Piedmont. Every year, at the end of May, Cuneo transforms into a vast, scattered stage: concerts are not confined to a single venue but spread across the Teatro Toselli, the San Francesco Monumental Complex, the Cathedral, historic churches, public squares, civic halls, and the natural spaces of the Gesso and Stura River Park. This is the essence of the subtitle «the music of places»: experiencing music in dialogue with the architecture, history, and landscape of the provincial capital of Cuneo.
The festival is conceived and promoted by the Fondazione Artea in collaboration with the Municipality of Cuneo, under the artistic direction of Claudio Carboni, assisted by Carlo Maver. The program brings together diverse musical languages, creating a conversation between them: from major names in Italian singer-songwriter and pop music to classical and baroque ensembles, and from world premieres of contemporary research to local choirs and youth orchestras. The event is supported by the Piedmont Region, the Fondazione CRC, and the Fondazione CRT, and collaborates with the «G.F. Ghedini» Conservatory, the Academia Montis Regalis, and numerous local musical institutions.
Over six days, the festival offers more than twenty events: major evening concerts at the Teatro Toselli, an experimental program in the evocative San Francesco Monumental Complex, choral and classical music in city churches and halls, as well as talks, listening guides, and immersive experiences such as the «f'Orma» barefooting sound experience in the River Park and the «Di-stanze sonore» urban soundwalks.
Città in Note has become a reference point for audiences across the Granda area and all of Piedmont. The city-wide music format allows visitors to discover or rediscover Cuneo's most beautiful spots accompanied by music, alternating between ticketed performances and numerous free events requiring reservation. It is the ideal occasion to combine cultural tourism, city strolls, and high-quality listening.
The various festival venues are located in the historic center of Cuneo (Teatro Toselli, San Francesco Monumental Complex, Santa Maria del Bosco Cathedral, Santa Croce Church, Sala San Giovanni, the City Hall's Salone d'Onore, Auditorium Foro Boario) and in the Gesso and Stura River Park.
Cuneo is accessible by train via regional connections from Turin and Liguria; the station is close to the center. By car, it can be reached via the A33 Asti-Cuneo motorway and the provincial roads of Cuneo. The festival venues are easily reachable on foot from one another.
Major concerts at the Teatro Toselli require tickets; many other events are free but require mandatory reservation. Information, the full program, and tickets are available on the official website www.fondazioneartea.org.
