A journey through musical history across the villages of the Ivrea Morainic Amphitheatre
The Cicala Music Festival is a travelling concert series that unfolds across the seven municipalities of the Ivrea Morainic Amphitheatre โ Bollengo, Burolo, Chiaverano, Ivrea, Loranzรจ, Rueglio, and Quincinetto โ in the Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont. Born from an initiative by the LeMus Edizioni Association, based in Ivrea, the festival offers a series of live concerts conceived as an authentic journey through the history of music, from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.
The unique charm of the Cicala festival lies in the constant dialogue between music and landscape: concerts are hosted in Romanesque churches, Renaissance houses, 18th-century guesthouses, industrial sites, and natural parks, highlighting the historical and environmental heritage of the Morainic Amphitheatre. Each event is accompanied by brief historical-musicological presentations and listening guides, helping the audience grasp the context and style of each era.
In the municipality of Burolo, concerts take place at the evocative Villa Pasta, at Via Parrocchia 15. The programme ranges from Baroque music to jazz, and chamber music from the Classical period. Recent highlights include concerts dedicated to the sonatas of Johann Sebastian Bach for flute and harpsichord, works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Georg Friedrich Fuchs performed on period instruments, as well as evenings dedicated to jazz and great authors of the instrumental repertoire.
One of the festival's core missions is supporting young musicians from the local area: numerous events are held in collaboration with the Liceo Musicale Association of Rivarolo Canavese, offering its students the opportunity to perform alongside established professionals. The festival also maintains a strong commitment to inclusion, involving musicians with diverse backgrounds and abilities.
Designed for enthusiasts and the curious alike, the Cicala Festival combines high artistic quality with accessibility, turning every concert into a moment of cultural discovery. For those visiting the Canavese, it is a chance to explore villages, villas, and churches that are often off the beaten path, accompanied by great live music.
The 2026 edition of the Cicala Music Festival brought some of the most anticipated concerts of the series to Burolo, at Villa Pasta. On May 10th, the third event took place, featuring fourteen-year-old violinist Erica Calcio-Gaudino โ accompanied on the piano by Gabriele Naretto โ and a performance by students from the Liceo Musicale Association of Rivarolo, in an evening marked by a commitment to inclusion.
On May 24th, at 6:00 PM, the programme 'Per Contrapunctum ad Astra' featured Johann Sebastian Bach's sonatas for flute and harpsichord. On May 25th, also at 6:00 PM, 'Historical Resonances' concluded the Burolo cycle with the Trio della Loggia, performing on period instruments works by Georg Friedrich Fuchs and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, including a Divertimento and arias from The Magic Flute.
Burolo is located in the Metropolitan City of Turin, just a few kilometres from Ivrea. By car, it can be reached via the A5 Turin-Aosta motorway (Ivrea exit); by train, via the Ivrea station on the Chivasso-Aosta line, with onward travel by bus or car.
The Burolo events are held at Villa Pasta, Via Parrocchia 15. Other festival concerts take place in the other municipalities of the Ivrea Morainic Amphitheatre.
