Art, music, and tradition for the holidays on the island of Ischia
Christmas Together in Lacco Ameno is the holiday festival through which the Municipality of Lacco Ameno, on the island of Ischia, accompanies residents and visitors from the Feast of the Immaculate Conception until Epiphany. Promoted in collaboration with the Pithecusae Archaeological Museum and included in the 2025-2026 metropolitan calendar of the Metropolitan City of Naples, the event transforms the village into a widespread journey of art, music, and tradition. The beating heart of the festival is the Villa Arbusto complex, home to the museum, flanked by the squares and the main street where nativity scenes, festive lights, and family activities unfold.
Each edition features at least one major exhibition set up in the spaces of Villa Gingerò, within the Villa Arbusto park, which can be visited during the opening hours of the Pithecusae Museum. Alongside art exhibitions dedicated to 20th-century Ischian artists, the event has also hosted unique exhibitions tailored to younger audiences, capable of engaging with the site's archaeological vocation and attracting families and curious visitors throughout the holiday season.
The program alternates between concerts, performances, and community moments. Christmas concerts, gospel performances, and choral groups resonate in the town's churches and auditoriums, while students from local music academies enliven the calendar. The spirit of solidarity is also central, with the charity event A Christmas for Unicef Isola d'Ischia, now in its many editions, which involves students from the island's schools in a parade along the main street to Piazza Santa Restituta.
The symbol of the festival is the wandering nativity scenes, a widespread itinerary of artistic nativities set up in the historic center and along the streets, accompanied by the lights that illuminate the village. These are joined by archaeological walks at the Pithecusae Museum, workshops for children, and events dedicated to the Befana, which conclude the festivities on January 6th.
Overlooking the gulf and famous for its Fungo, the rock formation that serves as the town's symbol, Lacco Ameno offers a cozy and authentic atmosphere in winter, far from the summer crowds. With most events offering free admission, Christmas Together in Lacco Ameno is an opportunity to discover the history of the oldest Greek colony in the West, Pithecusae, and to experience an Ischian Christmas amidst culture, the sea, and tradition.
The Christmas Together in Lacco Ameno 2025-2026 festival, promoted by the Municipality of Lacco Ameno and the Pithecusae Archaeological Museum, offered over a month of free events featuring art, music, and solidarity.
Lacco Ameno can be reached by ferry or hydrofoil from the ports of Naples (Molo Beverello and Calata Porta di Massa) and Pozzuoli to Ischia, then by local bus or taxi. The Villa Arbusto complex is located along Corso Angelo Rizzoli, in the town center.
Most events are free of charge. Exhibitions can be visited during the opening hours of the Pithecusae Archaeological Museum (Villa Arbusto). The updated calendar is published by the Municipality of Lacco Ameno and the Pithecusae Museum.
