About Inclusive Christmas Village

In Somma Vesuviana, nestled in the heart of the Vesuvius area near Naples, the Christmas Markets of the Inclusive Christmas Village transform the square in front of the Santa Maria del Pozzo Monumental Complex into a charming festive hamlet. Craft stalls, hobbyist booths, entertainment, inflatables, and workshops for children invite families and visitors to a December event designed so that everyone—truly everyone—can enjoy the holiday spirit together.

A Christmas village at the foot of Mount Somma-Vesuvius

When December arrives in Somma Vesuviana, one of the most populous towns on the northern slopes of the Somma-Vesuvius volcanic complex in the province of Naples, the historic center and its churches shift into a festive rhythm. The Inclusive Christmas Village is an event that the Municipality of Somma Vesuviana dedicates to families: for three days, the area in front of the Santa Maria del Pozzo Monumental Complex fills with wooden huts, lights, music, and children, featuring Christmas markets set up in the so-called Santa Claus Village along Via Santa Maria del Pozzo.

The setting: the Santa Maria del Pozzo Monumental Complex

This is no secondary detail. The sanctuary and the former Franciscan convent of Santa Maria del Pozzo are among the most precious treasures of the Vesuvian Campania region: a frescoed cloister, a structure with roots dating back to the Middle Ages, and the famous underground churches, which have been rediscovered and restored in recent years. Visiting the markets here means walking through a piece of local heritage while shopping for gifts or sipping hot chocolate; for many locals, it is also the annual opportunity to revisit a place they have known their entire lives.

Markets, crafts, and hobbies

The commercial heart of the event is the row of craft and hobbyist stalls typical of Christmas markets in Campania. Among the items most frequently found at these fairs:

  • shepherds, figurines, and accessories for the nativity scene, a deep-rooted tradition in the Naples area;
  • tree decorations, candles, and wax objects;
  • artistic woodwork, glass, ceramics, and terracotta;
  • textiles, embroidery, and handmade costume jewelry;
  • festive sweets and typical products from the Vesuvius territory.

Inclusion as the guiding principle

The event's name is not just for show. The village is promoted by the Area 7 — Social Services department of the Municipality and was born as an "opportunity for integration and special inclusion": the spaces, activities, and games are designed so that children and teenagers with disabilities, their siblings, and their parents can participate together with others, without separate paths. Entertainment, inflatables, creative workshops, shows, and themed attractions make up a program that is intentionally simple and accessible.

A city-wide Christmas

The village is part of a broader Christmas calendar that the Municipality builds every year with local associations and parishes: concerts in churches and squares, evening tours of cultural heritage sites, and initiatives in the fortified village of Casamale and near the D'Alagno Castle. Visitors from out of town can easily combine a trip to the markets with a stroll through the historic center, one of the best-preserved walled villages in the Vesuvian area.

Who is it for?

This is a local town event, not a massive fair: the scale is intimate, the atmosphere is family-friendly, and the audience is primarily local. Those looking for a December afternoon with children, surrounded by stalls, inflatables, and lights, just a few kilometers from Naples and the Vesuvius National Park, will find one of the most genuine experiences in the area.

Inclusive Christmas Village — edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Christmas Markets and the Inclusive Christmas Village in Somma Vesuviana has not yet been announced. Based on the December 2025 event, the festival is expected to return during the pre-Christmas period in the Santa Maria del Pozzo Monumental Complex area, featuring craft markets, entertainment, and inflatables. Dates, times, and the program will be published on the Municipality's official channels.

At the moment, the Municipality of Somma Vesuviana has not yet released the 2026 Christmas calendar: this is completely normal, as the holiday programming is usually defined and announced between November and the first few days of December.

Once the information is official, we will update this page with the exact dates, opening hours of the village, the list of activities for children, and participation procedures for market exhibitors. In the meantime, you can refer to the 2025 edition, which took place from December 19 to 21 in the area in front of the Santa Maria del Pozzo Monumental Complex.
