The municipality's festive event series featuring markets, Santa's villages, and music at the foot of Mount Vesuvius
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Pollena Trocchia is a town of just over eight thousand inhabitants in the Metropolitan City of Naples, Campania, situated on the northwestern slopes of Mount Vesuvius at an altitude of about 240 meters. Every year, between late November and Epiphany, the municipal administration organizes a calendar of Christmas events that brings the town's squares, farmhouses, and historical sites to life. It is not a festival with a fixed name, but rather a municipal event series that changes its title and format annually, adapting to available resources and collaborations with local associations.
The format follows the typical style of Vesuvian Christmases: a few major events and many local gatherings, almost always with free admission. The guiding principle stated by the administration is to offer citizens ยซopportunities for socializing and funยป, celebrating family, affection, and solidarity during the most anticipated time of the year. The initiatives are carried out by the municipality with its own resources and, for the 2025 edition, also thanks to funds from the Campania Region's POC program.
Christmas 2025 opened early, on November 29 and 30, with the first edition of the Christmas Markets in Santa's Village at Masseria Gammella on Via Cimitero, organized by the local Pro Loco. The municipal program then kicked off on Sunday, December 7, with AperiJazz in the Roman Villa, a morning of music and archaeology at the Masseria de Carolis site, followed by the opening of the Santa's Village for children on December 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, in Piazza Donizetti.
The heart of the events is Piazza Donizetti, in front of the local school, joined over the years by Piazza Don Luigi Russo, Piazza Amodio, and the Via Molli district, historically linked to the living nativity scene of the San Gennaro parish. These are complemented by local farmhouses, which bear witness to the agricultural soul of the Vesuvian slope, and the archaeological site of Masseria de Carolis, which gives the series a cultural dimension rarely seen in a small-town Christmas event.
Visitors from outside the area will find an authentic Christmas, far from the tourist circuits of central Naples and less than twenty minutes by train from the Porta Garibaldi station. The events are designed primarily for children and local families, but admission is free, and the morning format of many events makes them easily combinable with a day on Mount Vesuvius or a visit to the excavations of Herculaneum, just a few kilometers away.
The December 2026 program has not yet been announced by the Municipality of Pollena Trocchia. As every year, the calendar is published between November and early December on the institution's official channels and promoted by the local Vesuvian press: it is therefore advisable to check dates and locations before setting off.
As of the update of this entry, the 2026 Christmas program for the Municipality of Pollena Trocchia, in the province of Naples, has not yet been published. This is an annual municipal event series that is defined each time based on budget resources, potential regional funding, and collaborations with the Pro Loco and local parishes.
Based on previous editions, it is reasonable to expect a program concentrated between late November and Epiphany, with events in Piazza Donizetti and other town squares, initiatives dedicated to children, and musical moments. However, no dates or artist names are confirmed at this time.
We recommend checking for updates on the municipality's official website and in the local Vesuvian press before planning your visit.
By train: the Pollena Trocchia station (Piazza Ferrovia) is served by the EAV Circumvesuviana line; from Naples Porta Garibaldi, the journey takes about 18 minutes, with hourly departures. By car: the town is about 11 km from Naples, on the northwestern slope of Mount Vesuvius; parking is available on streets near the squares, which are often crowded on festive evenings. By bus: urban and suburban connections from Naples and neighboring Vesuvian towns.
The events of the municipal Christmas series are traditionally free of charge. Some initiatives, such as aperitifs or workshops, may require a fee or reservation: please check the municipality's channels on a case-by-case basis.
