The Christmas village on the Terrazza degli Iblei
Every winter, the Municipality of Melilli, located on the so-called Terrazza degli Iblei in the province of Syracuse, lights up its festivities with Christmas City, a Christmas village spread throughout the historic center. The heart of the event is Piazza San Sebastiano, which for several weeks fills with lights, wooden chalets, and attractions designed especially for children, becoming the main gathering point for local families.
The Christmas village offers a program designed for both adults and children, featuring the official Santa's House for souvenir photos and various themed installations:
Alongside the attractions, the municipal administration complements Christmas City with cultural initiatives, including exhibitions, themed displays, and workshops dedicated to local history and traditions.
The Melilli holidays are historically linked to the local living nativity scenes, a tradition rooted for decades. In the center of Melilli, the Living Nativity is staged in the ancient garden of the Convent of the Friars Minor Capuchin, while the hamlet of Villasmundo sets up its own nativity scene in the Parco della Sughereta. The performances, featuring costumed actors recreating ancient trades and village life, represent the core identity of Christmas in the Municipality of Melilli.
Amidst the lights of the Terrazza degli Iblei, Christmas City has become a highly anticipated event that combines entertainment, craftsmanship, taste, and religious tradition, helping to enliven the historic center of Melilli during the most evocative time of the year, from the start of December until Epiphany.
Christmas City 2025-2026 transformed Melilli's historic center into a Christmas village from December 12, 2025, to January 6, 2026, with opening dates concentrated on December 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28 and January 1, 2, 3, 4, 6.
Piazza San Sebastiano hosted Santa's House, the ice skating rink, the magical train, the Elf sidecar track, the elf pony, inflatables, and a market with wooden chalets dedicated to local crafts and food. The event intertwined with the region's living nativity scenes, from the Convent of the Friars Minor Capuchin in Melilli to the Parco della Sughereta in Villasmundo.
Village opening days: December 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, 28, 2025 and January 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 2026.
The village is set up in Piazza San Sebastiano, in the historic center of Melilli (SR), on the Terrazza degli Iblei.
By car, Melilli is accessible via the A18/RA15 Syracuse-Catania motorway (Melilli/Augusta exit) and the provincial roads of the Iblean area. The reference airports are Catania-Fontanarossa and, further away, Comiso.
Access to some village attractions requires a ticket, available online via the Vivaticket circuit; discounts are available for residents. It is recommended to check updated hours and rates on the official channels of the Municipality of Melilli.
