The holiday season program in the heart of the city of the Holy Martyrs

Christmas in Lentini is the program of initiatives through which the Municipality of Lentini, a populous town in the province of Syracuse in south-eastern Sicily, accompanies its citizens throughout the holiday season. The event comes to life in the heart of the historic center, centered around the scenic Piazza Duomo and its surrounding streets, running from the start of the celebrations around the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8th, through to Epiphany on January 6th.
Christmas in Lentini maintains a deep bond with local folk culture. A distinctive element is the nuvena, the setting up of small domestic and public altars decorated with laurel, citrus fruits, flowers, and nine candles, which become community gathering spots in the nine days leading up to Christmas. Starting from mid-December until Christmas Eve, bagpipers (the traditional ciarameddari) roam the town streets playing pastoral melodies, while the living nativity scene brings the historic center to life with re-enactments of the Nativity and scenes of daily life from the past.
The beating heart of the festival is the Christmas and craft markets, accompanied by a farmers' market featuring typical local products. For the little ones, there is the Santa's Village with inflatable play areas and creative workshops, while musical performances, street food, and Christmas concerts in the city's churches—ranging from traditional carols to choral performances, including the concert in the Mother Church—complete a program designed for every age.
Beyond Piazza Duomo, the initiatives involve Piazza Umberto I and other areas of the center, which in recent editions have also hosted an ice skating rink open to the public. Amidst illuminations, flavors, and traditions, Christmas in Lentini is the event that captures the spirit of the holidays in one of the most history-rich towns in eastern Sicily, guardian of the relics of the patron saints Alfio, Filadelfo, and Cirino.
The 2026 edition of Christmas in Lentini will once again feature the rich program of holiday events in the historic center, centered around Piazza Duomo. Following previous editions, Christmas and craft markets, Santa's Village, church concerts, a living nativity, and the traditions of the 'nuvena' and bagpipers are expected. Precise dates and the detailed program for the 2026 edition have not yet been published: we invite you to consult the official channels of the Municipality of Lentini to see the complete calendar.
